Cubcrafters Unveils New Carbon Cubs: EX-3 and FX-3

That is a short hop is a Husky. 8) Sorry, I couldn't resist with all this talk of speed. ;)

Maybe in a FX3, too. Brad Damm took an O2 bottle, went to 17,500 and went Yakima to Austin with one fuel stop, and a lot of reserve gas landing in TX in the FX3 in the last week or two. Good thing they made big heat and defrost in the FX3.

I followed that, at night to boot.

It is a short NON STOP hop in a Husky, true. SW Michigan is on the way from NY to Yakima. If they want to win over a couple Husky owners in the area it may be worth their while, its up to them.

They won over George, having followed George's post over the years I'll take that to the bank. ;)

I wouldn't go that far quite yet, they very much impressed George, I don't think they have "won him over" yet although that may very well happen soon. From his posts I get the impression he is seriously considering his options for his mission.

Kurt, they won us over with the SS and FX1 years ago, and we have serial number 33 or 34 FX3 on order. When we placed that order, a few weeks ago, next available FX3 was April 2018.

Ok well, there ya go! I stand corrected, thanks George. So are you selling the Husky's or adding the FX3 in addition to the fleet?

The FX3 is initially going on amphibs in AK, but with the idea it could replace what the Husky has done so well for us over the last two decades.

Kurt,

i figure they they could round us both up in one day. Maybe even pick a spot where we all could meet. I have reached out to CC. We shall see. Like you say, it’s up to them.

Joe

Joe and Kurt,

Thanks for the interest in the FX-3, and I would love to have you guys have the opportunity to fly it.

My plan is to head from Saratoga, NY to the St. Loius, MO area tomorrow. Don't know exactly what time I'll be departing, so we will have to plan it a bit on the fly, but the WX looks good and if you guys can come a little south and meet me somewhere along the way, we can probably set something up. I've got Joe's phone number from his email and I can let you guys know when I depart Saratoga, along with an ETA for the rendezvous.

Sound fair?

Thanks for the phone call Brad, I hope it all works out tomorrow, if not, I want to thank you for reaching out and making the effort.

Kurt

3 more sold in the last 48 hours. We are into May now unless you live in TX, OK, AR or LA :)

Kurt every one who flew the plane while here in Saratoga loved it. No hype. Loved it! To a man, the all agreed, light controls, huge power and thrust, comfortable, the list goes on. We had daily cub flyers, an airshow P51 pilot/instructor, 170 pilot, Husky flyer, C130 pilots. They all loved, the planes performance, looks, color, modifications and manners. I'm sure we will here from them here and on Facebook. Join Brad and you will enjoy the new FX3 also. Mark

They loved it for the color? Hot Dog! That's what has me excited about it! Sorry Mark, just being a smart ass.

Seriously, thanks Mark for the message, I sure hope I can meet up with Brad tomorrow, I know how logistics work and since his detour our way was unplanned last minute I understand if it fall's thru, in that case I will just have to come out to Yakima which would be fun.

I know in the photos, the color really is not the same. In person it really pops. I asked every person who saw it what they thought. I even asked non aviation people. ALL LOVED IT. Bold and in your grill. MK

We had a flight of 4 abreast today. Orange, Red, White and Blue. Now that was cool to see. We may have some pics of that I'll try to find.

Steve - You just nailed what I'm building at CC currently. Bigger tail, SS wings for weight and flap travel.

Had a buddy call about the lead time. They said First quarter of 2019

Hey Steve,

If your buddy is in OK, TX, AR, or LA have him reach out to me. I have a October 2018 slot available as of today. Several thinking on it and I'm guessing it will be gone in the next couple days the way things are going right now. We are into April 2019 otherwise. mike@boomerangair.net

Mike,
Can you tell us how you get the added speed on the FX-3? Is it airfoil changed from stock cub, or just fairing and streamline mods?
Understand all the speed mods on the X cub, just wondered how you get the speed on the FX-3. Other than constant speed/Hartzell and more HP.
Thanks,
John

My wife says these show the color better.

Hi John,

I sent your question to Pat (VP/chief designer) and he was quick to answer even on a Sunday. He explained that the thrust produced by the CC363i with the constant speed prop is 20% higher (as designed and validated by test), which is the major contributor. 20% more is a big number, especially since they worked so hard to keep the CC363i engine weight down. Also assisting is speed increase is some cruise drag reduction in the new prop spinner, updated cowling, and more streamlined wing strut attachment areas. I usually leave the "aero magic" to the team of pros at the factory (and they really are pros) but I can tell you first hand from my experience, it moves! The demo has 29" tires yet still brought the great cruise speeds folks are raving about. The Xcub is even faster in cruise, mostly because of the more streamlined aluminum landing gear and other fairing mods. For the FX-3/EX-3 with the new engine prop combo and the modern, well refined Carbon Cub airframe, nothing else out there can come close to climbing with it. Throw in the increased speed, 2000 lb gross, great engine cooling, and incredible cabin heat and its win-win-win.

Hope that helps...can you tell I am a bit excited about this thing?

Let me know if you have further questions. If I can't answer it the factory is happy to help out as you can see here by Pat's reply on a Sunday!!
