My Dad used to drive Gen Puller over to the liquor store in Urbanna sometimes since he didn't drive. He told Dad he could end the Viet Nam war in 30 days but.........

God Bless The Marines, without them who knows what the world would look like today.

Check out Smedley Butler and his book. He was the most decorated marine before Gen Puller. According to him, bannanas would probably be more expensive.

Gen Butler was awarded two Medals of Honor and the US Navy and the US Army Distinguished Service Cross in WWI He was also awarded the US Marine Corps Brevet Medal in WWI which is considered equal to a MOH. The US Navy Distinguished Service Medal later became The Navy Cross

Gen Louis B Puller was awarded five Navy Crosses throughout his military career. Both men had the propensity to say exactly what was on their minds regardless of who liked or disliked their remarks and consequently they were eased out of military service before "their time". Gen Puller's son died of wounds incurred in Vietnam, serving as an infantry officer in the Marine Corps

    Semper Fidelis and Happy Birthday

I remember how surprised and happy my Dad was to be remembered, when this book showed up in the mail. That was Dad's birthday.

That is one of the best books I have ever read about Vietnam and the aftermath. Puller's run for Congress was especially remarkable, mostly for what the opposition attempted to do to him.
