Ferrying a Super Cub to Bolivia

Got to check out SAMAIR's Angel today. Very cool! Nose wheel is an 8.50x6. Check the ailerons! It got off and climbed well at 10,500 ft DA. 20180606_082854.jpeg20180606_082918.jpeg20180606_082741.jpeg

That plane was made at Orange City Iowa-----20 miles west of me. I was at the flyin breakfast over 20 years ago when Carl took off, made a very tight pattern and plunked it down on a dime.

It was back in August 2001. Didn't get the name but the pilot actually looked like he might have been Bolivian as I remember.

I read an article years ago about a guy flying around the world in a Maule.
He wore an airline uniform type shirt when flying through foreign countries,
said things just went better dealing with officials that way.

That's excellent advice. Sailors do the same thing, always keep a white shirt with 4 strips in the closet for when you go to clear customs/immigration.

Very true and good advice. I used that setup from DR through Guyana. Should have started in the Bahamas. In some countries even the guy sweeping the hangar floor wears a uniform. Without one you are nobody and don't have the right to even cross the ramp to your airplane. Brazil and north/eastern Bolivia are much more casual.

That's funny and works! We would land in places in Mex- thru the islands and so. America flying Non-Sched's 727's , put the hat and sunglasses and March right thru customs at the airport and most of the time they were afraid to stop you. Guards would just shy back, its all in the bearing.
