Any recommendations on what to bring to be able to anchor a tent on the ramp, or will we be able to move them to the grass?

Does your tent require stakes to keep it up or just in place?

If it is just to keep it in place the stuff you put in it during the day will keep it in place you you will keep it in place at night.

We do have some grass areas we can use but we know they have fire ants.

Jimmy and I spent thousands of dollars of our own money, and hundreds of hours of our time at Llano to get the grass in good condition. We haven't had time to do anything at Hondo.

Would love to hear from others if they have tents (that they are bringing) that won't stay in shape without ropes and stakes.

I hope the pylon competition is where you drop it in from 10' then ground loop around the last pylon. I've been practicing that.

And shot put your tailwheel out across the landing zone. Extra points the further it goes.

New short landing mod? The tailspring acts as a tail hook?

Yeah someone actually reading the rules.

Actually KevinJ isnít too far off. But before I go there let me say that the Pylon STOL is still in the concept phase. Itís on the website because the name had to be published in order to get a Trademark on it.

So think abbreviated Red Bull Air Race (except not a race, and no aerobatics) ending in a Obstacle STOL landing. So navigate around a couple of pylons and short landing in a turn. I donít know this is just me talking out loud. Ever since I started the Roundup Iíve wanted to incorporate events that simulate the skills actually needed and used in the backcountry and off-airport. Safety is a huge concern as well and I havenít solved that in my head yet either.

I remember watching lumberjack competitions on TV and thinking how cool all the events were (especially the hot saw), and how much fun the lumberjacks were having. Iíd like to see a multi-day event for us that incorporates different skills (Iíve got more ideas in my head). The average pilot has no clue of whatís involved in working a plane off-airport, or how fun it is.

Over here in the Tx Panhandle we take this STOL deal pretty serious. Any time we can lose a few lbs. and gain a little AOA and land shorter we take full advantage of it. I like to think that the people of the Panhandle are pretty good at adapting and overcoming. In many ways we are very similar to our brothers north of the Red River......minus the cheating, stealing, mullets and Choctaw Bingo of course.

Tom.....the panhandle record for the baby bushwheel toss stands at 100 yards. That was on a firm surface, 6-8 mph tailwind and one bounce. The launching rock may have been larger than regulation however. Pretty solid record but over here we are always trying to improve.

Good point. We have very little hair over here also. Most gets blown off in the spring and fall. The rest in the summer and winter.

Anybody coming down from the north I have a couple of hanger apartments you are welcome to stay in. We have a gaggle of Super Cubs, Maules and a Pacer heading down Friday morning. Could do some Brazos River bar hopping and earn your Brazos River Rats sticker Thursday afternoon. Lee has been mowing the grass on the west side of 18/36 and the north side of 21/03 (looks like the taxiway should have kept going) both adjacent to the wind sock and tetrahedron. My hanger is the only thing on the north east corner of the airport.

Are there tie downs on the ramp? A tie down cable perhaps? Or do I need to bring a drill and concrete bit for my claw?

There are hundreds of recessed rings in the concrete. Hondo used to be a Army Air Corp base in WWII.
