Finally, the Redemption of Tom Cruise. Perhaps this will erase the painful stain of leaping off the couch in front of Whoopi and return him to his rightful place in the sky. Line of the day--"I'll rake it up in the morning"......

Don't know about the older generation of celebrity pilots,
but the current bunch is either low profile or unimpressive.
With the exception of Harrison Ford.....
flies a Husky and a Beaver and a PT-22, and lands on a taxiway....
I think he's one of us!
I know some airline pilots who think they're rock stars,
but a movie star who is a wannabe airline pilot .....?
John Travolta always showing up in an airline pilot uniform is just weird.

I'll give him a pass on that. John is a former client at my former company and I can personally attest that he has a reputation as a superb pilot. He trained for and flew the 707 to airline standards and his co-pilots, airline pilots all, were impressed with his professionalism, crew coordination and overall skill. He was one pilot-celebrity we never, ever had a problem with. Genuine down to earth guy, too. Still has a place up here.

And he stood on stage with George W in the pouring rain at Kitty Hawk on 12/17/2003

Is that anything like folks dressing up their cubs with fancy 35" tires, and all the Alaska mods so they can fly to the neighboring 3000' maintained grass strip to buy a burger, then get home and wash it because it rained on the way home?

In this day and TSA age, wearing a crew type uniform reduces the conflict on airports and the need to continually have to explain yourself to some 22 year old kid with a badge and a blue shirt.

He can fly stuff I have no clue how to even start, so who cares?

Travoltas wife Kelly Preston is a really nice person as well. I was at BGR a couple years ago getting fuel and she was there with a couple of pooches waiting on the helo to take her to their island on the coast. Beautiful woman killer smile She told me "those are really big tires on your plane". I immediately offered her a ride to the island and assured her we could land on the front lawn. She politely declined. Just as well Mr Travolta was already there

JP what year did he lose his ticket for buzzing the island in the 707?

That's interesting. The limitation is not there for the B-720 which is basically a short 707.

At the end of the day he's still a wannabe pilot. Can't even perform to Comm standard, let alone ATP!
That and me thinks he is too light in his loafers.....just sayin'!

    !
But aren't we all? I'm sure some ATP pilots dreamed of being fighter or space shuttle pilots. Some of us add big tires and safety cables to look like a bush pilot when everything we do could be done on stock parts. When I look at Ak bush pilots most work very hard and long hours while we play the part that they do everyday just to make a living. Some I talked to eveny us who get to play the bush pilot part for fun without the risk they live with everyday. I'm never going to excite enough brains cells to become an ATP or fighter pilot, hell I have trouble doing whats correct to get my 77 year old non electric J4 off the pond most days. But that doesn't mean i'm not living the dream, i'm just living all of it that I can handle. Besides, all the work in real airplanes was done by the navigator and the engineer, guys up front just keep the bus from hurting the sky

That went nowhere. They couldn't get anyone to even confirm if he was allegedly on the airplane, let alone flying it.....(whistling noise....).... I think that was summer 2000? I can still see that thing buzzing my house. Close. We went out to buzz him back one day and flew a Cub through his yard.

He flew relief to Haiti at his own expense, chatted with other guys on the radio, just like one of the guys flying the line. I can't think of anything bad to say about the guy.
