What planes actually came with a two hole tailwheel head. I have a Scott 3200 two hole mount but my spring is a one hole. Is one setup better than the other? Change the head or change the spring.
I wish I'd had a two bolt about two years ago when my single bolt broke on roll-out. No damage thank God, but it sure was a spectacle taxiing in riding the brakes and holding the tail up with the stick and throttle.
Talking to Airframes and they have had some operators break the T3. I guess you should figure out your mission and how hard are you on the tail. The two hole Pawnee head and spring are about the toughest set up I know of. Won't twist the tailwheel at the spring which has been an issue.
If the single bolt proves to be a problem it'll be simple to fab a two bolt replacement fitting on the T3. But I don't think the single bolt is a big issue. Can a T3 break? Sure, it has moving parts. A relatively inexpensive and unsophisticated shock being asked to do more than it was designed for. But it works. Everyone who's using it loves it. If recurring failures happen the weakness will be addressed. Cub parts evolution continues.
I know people who break the pawnee spring on a cub.... I'm always amazed at what they land in.... landing gear and props are kinda like gas and oil with them... consumables...
