The End of the Innocence. I listened to that tune on the way to Birchwood today and it seemed appropriate. The Wildcat just flew it's first two test flights. Man, what a ride. Gobs of power, crazy rate of climb, an honest straight and level 100 mph at 24/2400, hottest CHT 330*, oil temp 170*, all in ambient temps around 55*. The beast will take some getting used to. Mostly the power and the flaps, but the rigging is good and with only a couple of small items to tidy up? It's time to burn avgas.

    End of innocence, indeed.

And maybe a wild shout when nobody's around?

    Excellent news.

Now I'm going to have to put my Enigma CD in on the drive home...
    Congrats on the build...

Mike's transfer labels look great. I like the red text on black panel. One of many details that make me smile.

After being lost in my shop for a year and a half. I of course found the trim switch and stick top bag. After I made new top and bought new switches. It got pushed behind the microwave by where I feed the cat. I blame the cat.

It seems like you just started this project. I just went back to your first page of posts. April 14 2016 I think it was, you posted the arrival of wing and other parts.

Just a little over 2 years start to finish. That may not be a record and am sure you weren’t after one... But still, that’s a real accomplishment !

    Congratulations on a beautiful airplane..!

What software design program do you use? It appears that you need a laser printer.

I can't believe the stuff I learn on this site. First there was backyard anodizing. Just now I had to look up EDM cutting.

Now I want to build one too!

    Wildcat Cub

It was (mostly) fun. A few hurdles to hop but in truth Backcountry Supercubs has been and continues to be a pleasure to work with.

The Wildcat is home at Lake Hood. And that feels good.

I love the MaxPulse flasher but I hate the cheap paper placard they include. In the Wildcat I needed to rotate the switch to fit the space and knew I'd have a custom realigned placard made. I didn't know it would look this good, and it even has the MaxPulse logo. Action Graphics did the placard using Lexedge material. Very cool. Small details matter.

The first impression is that this plane flies with the tail higher than anything I’ve flown. A seasoned SQ friend tells me it’s the view over the lowered nose that makes it seem that way. I believe he’s correct but the perception is undeniable. I need to add some weight in back to calm the trim sensitivity. Temperatures when leaned see 375* CHT. Enrich to 365* and the EGTs are perfectly flat, so for the moment I’ve found the engine’s happy place. The oil cooler doors half shut oil temp is 180-185. The airplane is smooth and responsive. Aileron effort is considerably higher than a standard Cub. I have a dud Earth X so a new one goes in today. Chasing the blinking light limited yesterday’s flight. So lucky to live in a town with airplane parts stores to get such things off the shelf. I have a couple more small projects to do but nothing pressing so I look forward to them. A friend told me that an experimental aircraft is never finished. Hmm, he may be right!

Congrats on getting your Cub in the air Stewart. I hope to get a glimpse of it sometime in the next few weeks as I wander around your great state. Should be at the Lake hood strip at least a couple of times during my wandering.

For some reason the lettering had me hearing the Indiana Jones theme in my head. It announces a confident, yet wild, adventure to come.

    Very nice.

Stewart, I just looked at your video on youtube by doing a search. The one I found is fuzzy and not crisp. But when you first posted the video it was crisp.

I wonder if youtube itself is messing with the quality through compression or something.

Those last links posted are the better quality ones. I erased the fuzzy one I found.

As for embedding it, here's a try with the same link:
