they will work on and snj to bad to you don't have the brakes
Talked to my buddy that owns a mustang. If they are original P51 all one piece aluminum wheels, they are worth about what the aluminum is worth. If they are the split rim wheels from a P63 that fit the P51, and they are in good condition, no pitting or corrosion, they are worth about $1000 each.
Thanks Steve.. Unfortunately I dont have a buddy with a 'stang..! Here in NZ we didnt have Aerocobras so Im guessing they will be Orig P51. I will have a closer look. I thought Id try and source a junk gear leg and build up a complete undercarrige to put on the workshop wall... either that or a cool yard trailer
Here are the wheels.. upon closer inspection, I think they could be P40....?

"market value"?The best bet for those wheels would be a cool yard trailer. Look at all the corrosion. I would not put them on anything of value.

I don't know where you've been me lad, but I see you won first Prize!
Are you certain they didn't come from an AT-6 (Harvard)?
They look like the BT wheels we use to run on our Stearmans. I'll have to go chech the one I still have.
yeah i know.. only after i dragged them out of the barn and into the light did i see the poor condition. the guy thought they were P51 and had the delusion they were worth something?? iv already told him they are worthless but id like to have them for a yard trailer or similar with an aviation association. in NZ there were plenty of P40, AT6, P51, Mosquito, F4U broken up post WW2 and the wheels often found their way onto farm and orchard equipment. I can see nowntheybare not P51 but would like to identify them....
I do not know for sure what they do go on but, they do resemble either a Cessna T-50, Grumman G-44 "Widgeon" or a Stearman. They do go on a tapered axle with shoe brakes and utilize a hubcap with four dzus fastners.

How about donating them to the owner's favorite war bird museum? If the tax laws are similar to those in the U.S. you can take a tax break for the donation. They gain, you gain, all is well.
When a prang seems inevitable, endeavor to strike the softest, cheapest object in the vicinity, as slowly and gently as possible.— advice given to RAF pilots during W.W.II.
IF they're 8:90 by 12:50 they're likely originally from a Stearman. If 27 inch then a BT or T-6.
