    American Barnstormers Tour 2012

Eleven beautiful antique airplanes stopped in at Anoka County Airport for the people to have lunch and for the planes to get some maintenance work. Their host was Greg Herrick at his Golden Wings Museum. They took off for Eau Claire, WI, this afternoon where the planes will be on display and at least 4 of them available for rides. Their Schedule is here: http://www.americanbarnstormerstour.com/

    Darrel,

The Travel Air 4-D is owned by Bruce McElhoe from Reedley, CA. Bruce is a great guy and who has helped me tremendously with my Cub project. He is a retired engineer from Boeing and is very sharp. I have mentioned your name to him in the past when we have been talking about restoring my Cub and about our conversations you and I have had together. There has been many conversations that Bruce and I have had in his hangar talking antique aircraft.

Bruce's Travel Air is in Picture 1, 7, and Picture 10 is of his instrument panel. It looks like Bruce's back is to the camera in picture 1. Bruce, together with Mark Lightsey of Aerocraftsman in Flabob, CA, restored that Travel Air. The name of Mark's business really says it all. He is truly a craftsman. Bruce's Travel Air is perfect in every detail and has won awards in every judging event it has been entered in, including Grand Champion at Blakesburg and Reno! I believe that is Mark's flat engine Monocoupe is parked next to him.

I wish I knew that the tour was going to be at your field. I would have told you to be sure to stop Bruce and say hello. I'm sure he would love to talk to you knowing that we are all friends!

    Thanks for sharing these photos.

Kevin, what fun to share a friend with one of these guys. We really were not a stop on the tour, they just surprised all the airport bums by stopping in for a couple of hours to wrench on the planes. Sorry I missed talking to Bruce & Mark.

    Barnstormers Tour Brainerd, MN

We saw the Barnstormer airplanes in Brainerd, Mn this past Tuesday and flew in the 1929 Travel Air 4000 ( blue and red checkered) with Pilot David Mars. I was wearing my New Holstein Super Cub t-shirt and he told us he owns a super cub and it is his most fun airplane to fly.

Did you notice what engine the Bleriot was running... He "antiqued" it a bit...

David Mars, In fact does own a supercub and he lives on a strip in MS (MS71). His Curtiss Robin was the one used in the movie Pearl. His hangar is decorated with many unique and vintage aviation memorabilia. Anybody with a hint of interest in this kind of thing could spend hours in his hangar looking at his stuff.
