    Hail Damage at New Holstein

    Folks,

I don't want to cause a panic, but if you were at New Holstein the night of the big rain storm you should probably have a look for hail damage, especially if you were in a metal airplane. Another member pointed the damage on his 180 out to me, and sure enough, I have some as well on my 180. It's not terrible, but it is definitely there.

Others in metal planes have reported no problems.

It stormed Wednesday? I don't remember that. I do remember waking Tim up the morning before. That was some funny stuff.

Chris Nesin, I think you should know how close your tent came to being "flour bombed" from the inside out. Yes, I was somewhat tentative [okay, not really] about handing over excessive amounts of flour to Tim Wednesday afternoon. I watched him ponder the effects of such an action, and I believe he considered the ensuing payback too much!

I was harmlessly making sure he didn't miss breakfast. Such hostility. What's this thread about?

I don't think we have any *new* damage. Our horizontal stabs have some mild damage from many, many years ago. I'll double check the rest of the plane but think we would have noticed it when cleaning it after we returned. I don't remember hearing any hail that night, though that was one wicked storm. Surely I would have heard it hitting the fuselage of our plane 3 feet from our tent?!?!

I heard some "rain" that sounded awfully loud at Oshkosh that night.

When I got home, I noted two small dents in the aft wing root fairings....can't swear that they weren't already there, but I never noted them before. Rest of the top surfaces are fine. I'm betting those formed fairings are somewhat softer metal than the wing skins.....

If there was hail, it wasn't real ugly and didn't last long, but there was a downpour for a couple minutes that sounded really loud occasionally from my tent, pitched under the wing.

We were in camp Scholler after we got back from the pig roast in NH and around 10 it started to rain and then for a few min mixed in with the rain were a few pea size hailstones.
