Latest From KANE -- Steam Power

The guys at C & P Aviation were taking a break today from working on their P82, P51, B25, Grumman HU-16 Albatross and other treasures, tweaking this "Gentleman's Steam Launch" -- great fun for all of us at Anoka County Airport on the north side of the Twin Cities! It was last restored in 1992 and could use some TLC to bring it back up to snuff for sailing on the Thames, Mississippi or Saint Croix. The younger guy in the boat is Patrick Harker, the "P" in C & P. The older guy looks like he just came off the Pequod with Ahab (Moby Dick).

Thanks for sharing that. Neat. I love all the brass. Not sure I would want to keep it all polished but it looks sooooo nice. Thats a cool toy.

Darrel, that "older" guy in the red suspenders is Sam Kapplinger. He's been around Anoka County airport for many years and even flew at the old U of M airport when it was across the freeway. He's got stories about chasing weather baloons, and flying nitro slung in the back of his Mooney from back then. He and I spent lots of time flying cargo in an Aztec, (Sam used to own an Aztec) for one of the FBOs that used to be on the airport. We've got a few stories of our own, don't believe everything you hear though. If you run into him again, ask him to tell you something about Bob McFarland, now that's a guy with a lot of history, and man could he fly a plane.
Sam is a great guy and pilot, he's the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back.
    Thanks for posting the pictures.

Thanks Jim for adding the info about Sam. He has one of those weathered faces that reminds me of a Melville or Hemingway character.
