    O320 Engine Baffles

I really need a complete set of engine baffles for an O320 in a homebuilt Supercub (whatever works on a SC works on my plane). Airforms (Big Lake AK) has a set for $900. Since a mechanic will be doing this project, I have to weigh his time (& money) against the cost of pre-made & faster installation.

    Any opinions or advice?

    Thanks!

    Anne.
Baloney is still baloney, no matter how thin you slice it.

Practically non-existent. They never were any good, but my new mechanic is a real engine guy, and that was the first thing he noticed (and the only thing he criticized about the plane). Lots of duct tape involved right now. This is something I've meant to do, but just haven't gotten around to it.

If you want to do a some modification, you could buy a set from Vans and adjust them to fit. If you want a complete, ready to bolt in, and very well made set, then Airframes are tough to beat. After repairing one original piece with lots of patches and rivets, I opted for the airframes baffles to finish - much easier. Their metal bending and riveting skills are a lot better than mine. They were even able to fab the left rear oil cooler baffle to fit a larger oil cooler than standard - no extra charge. Just call them and tell them what you need - highly recommended.

You could try Randy Rubbert in ND I got a set of his and they are excellent.
    Can't remember the cost.
The most important aspect of this signature line is that you don't realize it doesn't say anything significant until you are done reading it & then it is too late to stop reading it....

Wayne just installed new Rubbert baffles in the project cub. The full set was $1300. Wayne said the workmanship was excellent and they fit perfectly.

So far, it looks like Airframes is my best choice. Thanks for the replies, everyone.

go with cub baffles, too much labor to deal with vans at a mechanics labor rate
Are 180 hp the same baffle set as the 320?

My bad. I forgot that they changed the name to Airforms. It's still Lee's outfit, isn't it?

Nothing beats a turn key/bolt on ready set, but if cost figures in, Van's are only about $250 and a lot of people use them for all sorts of aircraft other than RV's.

Airforms - I had it right the first time, wrong the second time. Big Lake AK. It seems like the fastest & surest way to do it, rather than trying to build up a set from pieces.

    Thanks!

Randy made mine -- nice quality but I did end up cutting the front baffles back and changing the silicone seals, making my own out of the slick McFarland Teflon coated material: http://www.supercub.org/forum/showth...-Thickness-etc and http://www.supercub.org/forum/showth...Seal-Thickness

When a prang seems inevitable, endeavor to strike the softest, cheapest object in the vicinity, as slowly and gently as possible.— advice given to RAF pilots during W.W.II.
