A whole week of bombing around in the airplane! What a hoot! I'm lovin' this flyin' thing!
Spent a week in NW BC & the Yukon, flyin' fishin' campin' & enjoying the boonies. So many "wow" moments, lots of great/interesting folks, but ate too much oatmeal.
Fuel is not plentiful up there, & we paid between $2.05/liter (Whitehorse) to $2.75/liter (Dease lake). No matter what it cost, it is worth it, & I plan to do this at least once a summer. On a (very) positive note, I added up all fuel purchased, divided by the GPS flight time & got 5.3 (Canuck) gal/hr. That's about 6 of the skimpy US gals.Thank you Bart! I often wished I had one of those JPI fuel computers, so I could see what I was burning @ different times like climbing, different cruise RPMs, etc. Happy BD to me... so I bought one.
Pic below is @ a dock in Atlin, we landed in quite a wind & tried to beach/secure on baseball sized gravel with little to tie to, and a guy on a bike said "There's a transient parking dock 200 yds over there". Alrighty then, we went there & all was great. Walked up the hill for a late lunch & when we got back we watched a nice 185 taxi in & pull up on the sand 100' away. A red car pulled up, woman got out & said "They're parked on your dock!". Oh $hit, but he was cool, was just stopping on his way to Whitehorse. This is fabulous country to fly around, landscapes of every flavor, fishing great everywhere. We put down in "Trout lake" and caught grayling, lake trout, & pike, but no trout!![]()
The only run-in with wildlife was a cow (w/calf) moose chased my partner off his fishin' hole. Maybe Dale will post his story of getting to Nimpo on bushwheels, dragging his plane through a 3' puddle & mounting his floats just before we left!
The Cub is the best toy I ever bought!
