Just before to leave my hangar tonight, I have selected what I believed a simple task before returning to my home.
I started to install my rudder pedals and their "bloody" springs.
Is there a tips to make it quick and right ?
Thanks

its hard to do with floor in place, but can be done lots of time
step 1. sand all the paint or powder coating of the contact area of pedals and clamps (i put clamps on fuselage then run sandpaper on a drill) if you don't do this step when that coating wears off the pedals will be loose and floppy ...
then grease the joints well and start trying to tighten clamps, if they bind add washers under clamps so they can have clamp tighten agains them and bolt be tight.... repeat till working freely..
the new univair springs are wound way to 'wide' compared to originals and are a pain to get in there....
these are my sanding tools the 2 left versions/ones are for sanding outside of pedal.. the other is for the clamps/fuselage tabs.

hmmm upside down... oh well... so left is right and right is left.... right?
Thanks !
I will try that way.
Univair's springs are too long for the left pedal on my -18A. There's just not enough space on the axle between the outboard tab (welded on the airframe) and the pedal's riser tubing. This means that when you tighten the clamp, the axle pushes the spring up against the tab but never actually reaches the bottom of the tab, and the spring eventually cuts into the axle or the pedal stays loose.

BEFORE
I resolved this by adding an 0.095" 4130 piece between all 4 clamps and tabs for the axles to ride on (rather than on the tab), adjusting tightness with washers like Mike said. The pedals now snap forward nicely yet they're not loose.

AFTER
Aviator,
Thanks for the drawing. That's a geat solution !
I also slightly adjusted that edge (see my drawing).

Mike,
Thanks for the advise for cleaning paint. I like your custom tools.
Thanks again to both of you !![]()
