Request for Thoughts and Prayers for Lance's Family

I have been informed by two of Lance's good friends, Steve Pierce and Steve Eaton, that Lance and Amy's 3 year old son, Reid, has been diagnosed with a malignant tumor, an embryonic rhabdomyosarcoma, in the space between his left eye and the eye socket.

Lance called me moments ago. Reid, Amy and Lance are at St. Jude's in Memphis TN where Reid is undergoing diagnostic testing and will soon undergo procedures all aimed at treating his condition.

Lance has asked me to post this, not to elicit sympathy, but rather to let you know that he and his family will appreciate your thoughts and prayers as their little boy undergoes these procedures. Lance will post something under this thread in the days to come, but he and Amy are so worried for their little boy that he feels he cannot speak about it right now. He asked me to do so, and to thank you all for your support as he holds the supercub friendships with the highest regards.

We spoke about how one deals with this sort of tragedy as a parent, and I must say that when my son was facing surgery as a 1 day old I have never been so torn apart. There are many of you in this Supercub Village who will know just what to say to Lance and Amy. Please take time to do so.

I post this with Lance's permission, and will add to it as time goes on.

In the meantime, we will pray and hope for the best for Reid, and for strength for Amy and Lance.

Today has actually been an "up beat" day. Reid and I are hanging out in the bed of our room as I type this. We are on an emotional roller coaster ride so I may not have anything nice to say next time I post about this

Many of you already knew about this but we want all the thoughts and prayers we can get for our son. I will post more as we know more.

    Thoughts and prayers are assured.

I was a willing supporter of St Jude's for many years and I'm embarrassed to admit I've missed a couple of years. I'll rectify that tomorrow with a check. I encourage others to do the same.

    Lance:

Sorry to hear the news. We had a son spend a week in the hospital with a smashed head from a freak accident, it was a long week with a lot of anguish. Sure doesnt compare to your fight. The worst part of these deals is the inability of a dad to fix whats gone wrong. I always figured it was up to dads to make stuff right again, and still feel poorly that all I could do was sit and listen to guys in white coats. Please know your friends in Maine have Reid in our thoughts and wishes.

If you get a chance, could you post a pix of Reid, I want to print it and keep it in my office to send him some good vibes.

    Thanks

    To Lance an Amy:

I don't know you or your little fella but feel, at least in part, what you must be going through. I'm no psychologist, priest or counselor of any sort, not even very good at offering advice, but we, too, have gone through trying times with our own kids, grand kids, loved ones, and found an effective way to cope. Take it for what it's worth.

Things happen in our own worlds every day, events we can't explain, every once in a while a tragic event. Some of us handle these things by routinely meditating about the immaterial nature of reality a few minutes every day, call it bedtime prayers if you like. If you haven't yet, try to tap into the unfathomable, physical-spiritual-mental, energy-complex that permeates the known and unknown Universe, the source of all we know and don't know yet can't deny, the living, benevolent entity the ancients called God. Seek guidance there, then solemnly resolve to do what you feel is right, one minute, hour, day at a time, and then do it. You'll still have roller coaster days, but given such strength, you'll be able to cope with them. I guarantee it.

We'll do our part praying for you all... as do others, here.

You should be proud! It's called emotions and we are supposed to have them. Good and bad. Specially towards our loved ones and towards our own children more so.

I know how it feels and wish you and your family all the best!

Praying for the best outcome for your son. Life's toughest challenges are the things we are powerless over. I know the heartache is most difficult when our little ones are involved. May God give you hope and peace every moment of the day and strength and wisdom for the decisions ahead.

Lance, prayers are said for your family. St. Judes is a great place. I am a moderator on Corvetteforum.com. Corvetteforum.com has had a St. Judes auction for years. St. Judes is an extremely important hospital for children and we support it 110 percent. Pilots and car people are a great bunch of folks. Last year at Corvetteforum.com some of the ERA pilots featured on Flying Wild Alaska signed some ERA caps to be auctioned off for St. Judes on our site. At Corvetteforum.com we have this year's St. Judes auction in process right now. Hopefully your son will benefit from our member's purchases. Maybe Supercub.org can do something similar. Lance, all of us here wish your son the best. Torch
