Have a problem fellas. Found a set of Dakota wings like I been looking for. Only problem is they are in Alaska and I'm in Wyoming. Anybody have any experience shipping large parts from Alaska to lower 48?

If the wings you are interested in are the ones being advertised by Carol Hill on Barnstormers website, I have been trying to figure out what the wings are. She lists them as "Dakota wings with mods for pa-12 or return to pa-18." The problem is I think the angle of the wing strut attachment fitting for a 12 is different than an 18. If that is correct, a 12 wing will not fit on an 18, regardless of whether it has been set up with an internal pa-12 aileron bellcrank or an external bellcrank one like the 18.
I am often wrong, so maybe one of the experts here can confirm/refute whether the lift strut fitting angle is different for the two aircraft.
I guess im not sure either.. She says they were ordered as 18 wings then converted for a 12 so I was assuming the bell crank was the only things changed, but i guess i didn't know the strut fittings were different on a 12
Many trucks running empty south. Need a good crate, but should be able to find something headed that way after dropping a load for the oil fields or such...
Parfey trucking might be a call to make, think they are in Idaho or close to taht.
I don't know where you've been me lad, but I see you won first Prize!
And I am sure you know, the collection of mismatched parts she has listed has been for sale for at least a year, maybe 2. How those parts would become a pa-12 one day is beyond me.
I sure would like to know who built the wings, first, and then have them thoroughly inspected by an expert before I worried about shipping.
For what she's asking, you may be better of buying a new set of PA-12, or PA-14 wings with flaps already installed like I did, from Univair. They are new, certified, and come with a Yellow Tag. Univair stands by their products and they sure do look nice.
If you want Dakota fuel tanks, I am pretty sure Univair will install that STC for you during the build process.
Aurora, CO is a lot closer to WY than AK.
Those are slotted wings as I recall, I hope you get a good price on them to offset your shipping and crating cost. You might want to check the price of a new kit
from Dakota might be less hassle that way. It might end up saving you some money in the end but make sure you run the numbers before you put your money down.
Good Luck.
P.S. those wings have been for sale for 2 or 3 years. Tread carefully when somethings been for sale that long and no one bought
them there's usually a reason.

Yea Looks like I'm going to have to look into it a lot closer. She sent me a whole bunch of pictures and everything looks really good. But guess you never know. Kinda figured for the price she agreed on I couldnt really go wrong. Fuel tanks, tips, control surfaces, and wings, and slot assembly, for less than Dakota cub wants for one bare wing without control surfaces, slot assembly, tanks etc.
There is also the possibility that she is just trying to clean out her ex's or late husband's stuff. Which could explain a good price and why some folks would think that a good deal must have something wrong with it.
N1PA
If they are built correctly and that is the wing you want, go for it. I would insist on a yellow tag and logbook entry by a reputable IA, though.
Can anyone here confirm that the wing lift strut attachment angle is different on a 12 than on an 18?
Are you saying that new dakota wings are 18.5 each?!? That would be insane.
Slotted wing prices include flaps and ailerons. Slotted wing STC is limited to the whole assembly (there is no kit version) so DCA would have had to assemble them if they are to be legal on a certified airplane. That is the gist of it at least.
Last I checked, a set of slotted wing with 23-gallon tanks was around $25k but I could be wrong.
In transition. Never sit still.
Yea I'm not sure trying to get some answers about these wings. Nobody seems to know much about them. I just got off phone with dca. For a new set of wings tanks and tips a guy is looking at around 25k like Amy said if you go there and pick them up. Few grand more to have them shipped to you. If these wings are legit I have them bought if I want them for a lot less than she is asking. She says they were assembled by Dakota cub of Alaska. So Im still waiting for them to get back to me to see of they have any records about these wings.
That sounds about right. I made inquires about those wings a couple years ago when they were being listed at 22-23K and decided to pass. I'd have DCA or alaska custom cubs do an inspection on them for sure. If you can get them for 16k or something you might come out all right, sounds like your covering your bases well good luck.
