Just around the patch a few times - wx raised to top of mtns. Dry all day here, thinking we may get to get out tomorrow. Clams tonight, lobster & steak tomorrow...

Pulled a Willy B and drove the 10 miles to Phil's earlier today, been raining off and on all day, weather looks like some more t-storms in a little while, getting ready to head down and visit and try to wake everyone up. Hope for improvement in the morning.

  7. #167
I feel a lot better with so much talk about driving.

Clouds in trees this morning with rain. Will be over in the Scout if it clears, if not we will drive for dinner. PLease flightplan 2 lobster for me. I am trying to talk Russell into the "right" seat of the Jeep, he will probably eat a couple seabugs if he comes

I won't be able to make it, SE Mass is socked in. My apologies. Please send your tel # and snail address by PM. I want to send a contribution to keep the Bushwhacker Fly In going. Looks like eastern MA is going to be in clouds/rain until Monday. Super Cliff just posted an enroute pic on FB scud running!

Dear FMD, we may or may not be buzzing China Lake in an hour... give or take cub time.

  15. #175
    Hey Phil,

Still waiting for the clouds to lift in Carrabassett Valley. I'll drive over if the weather here doesn't cooperate. Pencil me in for a Lobster!
    Thanks

The crew is making the rounds now. At Bowman. Lots of pictures, but no cheese due to Glenn's failure to deliver.

You basterds. We are running around with raincoats on in the drizzle and fog.
Wing Commander Russell and I are flying over in the Jeep, see you around 4, someone best have cold beer for us who worked today so that others could fly

I almost made it to Bushwhacker when I got intercepted by a group of cubs heading right at me. It was fun leading the way into Bowman.
With the weather deteriorating I think I will put my cub back in the hanger and drive back up with my wife. Lobster and beer for dinner... yumm

I just got out of work. Raining and thunder down here. I'll be up first thing tomorrow morning.

Things aren't bad here with the exception of the river threatening to flood the runway. One more thing, don't let a scout flying farmer use your cub. He goes up in front of the hometown and lands multiple times, better than the owner. If he wasn't in better shape then me, we woulda had trouble.

Sorry about the cheese, but we made an old man very happy. Clarence owened both the 1929 Robin and the 31 CW-1 Jr and watched them hang in his barn for over 50 years and yesterday got to see both of them fly. I put over 100 miles on the Jr yesterday and a few of them IFR between the rain showers. Looks like you guys had a good time as always.

Rumford is safe. All those beer drinking pilots have left the area. Thanks everyone. Donations were great, everyone pitched in and no one got arrested. We had a couple of lawyers on hand in case. One was real cute, the other one not so much. Thanks everyone, great turnout considering the weather. Thankyou too much.

Thanks to Phil and family for a good time under gloomy skies. A bigger thanks for providing a Super Cub to those who come to a fly in in a Jeep. I havent flown a cub for 10 yrs, 92D is a sweet machine. Thanks. Now if you could do something about JP snoring...

Got back to 1C3 about 1430 or so, thank you Phil and Sue for a great weekend. That Maine sunshine was terrific, I know how hard you two worked to entertain us all and pull this get together off. A little NYS cheddar would have been good but I guess Fed Ex does not outbound from Cooperstown. Jim

Thanks Phil and Sue, it was great. And say thanks to Henry for letting me stay in his motorhome with all the rain, thunder and lightning. He really bought that " I forgot my tent " routine.

Thanks again to the Mighty Rumford Gang. Over the River and through the Hills in the drizzle fog in a bright yellow Jeep. What a great time --Carrabasset Pale Ale, Gritty's Summer Ale, Steamers, Steak and Lobster. Who would have believed that the highest ceiling in the entire State was in Rumford!?! Tim slept in an ark. Douten drove in for dinner. Watched a formerly frustrated SpudFarmer fly a Cub, flawlessly, after 10 years. Enjoyed the classic rock band and reliable reports note that when I'm not talking, I'm snoring. Gene Veinote had us in stitches. Phil told some stories I hadn't heard. SuperCliff was all dressed up. Continuing Legal Education credits were awarded to several attendees. Dodged the less reputable citizens at The Linnell. Breakfast while looking at the 100 foot overcast was a treat. Then we headed Eastbound into the fog......

As always Phil fed us well - weight n balance smeight n balance... We got one short local fly-out and had big plans to buzz china lake till we were thwarted by the weather AGAIN.

Of course my sis was welcomed with open arms! I tried to wisen her up a little but she was fooled by all those lovable, innocent-looking, sweet-talking, fun-loving pilots! (Geeez i can hear all your heads swelling from here!)

Flew all the way home 500 AGL'ish with a Husky in trail as we picked our way over the hills and thru the woods to grandmother's house....then I had to drive - which is highly over-rated.

Thanks again Phil for the warm welcome and great food - as always!

Phil's hospitality made for a great weekend even though there wasn't as much flying as anyone hoped. Thanks again Phil for putting up with us for another long weekend!!!

Three inches of rain Thursday night, but everyone managed to stay dry. Friday was almost a total washout, but one more snuck in to join the fun. Saturday turned out to be a decent, though abbreviated flyout. At least we got to burn some 100LL and contribute a bit to the Maine economy!

    Highlights:
Quite a few people who made it in one way or the other (even though it was more 'other' this year)
    Nobody got sunburned
It looks like we may have added a regular to the North East events
Douten led us on a moose tour/airplane wash, and a few actually saw moose
Most importantly, everyone who flew in, flew home and we didn't create any work for Anne or the NTSB!

Sure sorry to have missed this one, but the family reunion in the Wisconsin Dell's was a great time too. Tough choices this time of year!

Hope to catch up with you Nor'easterners around WAD time.

What a great time. Phil and Sue really know how to make everyone feel welcome and host a great time. The food was amazing; Cliff, JP and I really put a hurting on those steamers and the lobstas were cooked to perfection. Rene and Heather are first class people and parents, I enjoyed listening to Rene tell stories about his sons pilot skills. I finally met Cruiser and he told me that he trained in my Cub back in the day, when it belonged to Argile flight school. I will look forward to hearing more stories about his flight training at the next fly in. Scouter made flying Phils Cub look second nature to him and Cliff demonstrated his flying skills after which my wife said “I will never get in a plane with that guy”. It was great to see Henry in the backseat of Phil’s Supercub at Bowman but I am sure Phil was concerned about Sue flying with Tim, but probably not as much as Sue was. Thanks again Phil and I look forward to seeing you all at the next one.

Larry - about your wifes comment that she would never fly with me I say this: I don't blame her for having that opinion. I prefer to fly alone and hope more pilots adopt that position with me. However, when I do have passengers I NEVER horse around! Some do - some load as many friends in their airplane as they can and go do crazy things - I don't! I know my airplane and it's abilities even better after my little airshow show! I always say most of what we learn is all about preparing for the day the engine quits! I bet the day my engine quits i'm in WAY better position to make it do what I need it to do than many pilots!
I know i'm a good pilot (with room for improvement which i'm working on) and i'm the only one I need to convince!

I wonder if anyone said that about John when he put on his show!

Anway it was a great weekend - sorry so many missed it! I look forward to the next one! Thanks again Phil and Sue.

    Cliff,
Big difference between you and John...he has common sense and skill you have.....uhh.....uhhhhhh ....an account on You Tube used by the FAA for training videos? Do not worry about Larry's wife she is one of thousands that would never fly with you so your days alone in flight are many.
    HA!
