Tie-down or hangar somewhere near Kitsap County, Washington

Anyone know a good place to keep a PA 12 in Kitsap County? The driveway is definitely out - the neighbors won't go for it. 8W5? WA61? I'm north of Silverdale about 15 miles.
Jefferson County has hangers, but it's a 30 mile drive, Bremerton National is about 25. All that restricted airspace makes it look like a good place to get shot down!

Check out APEX, between Bangor and Silverdale. I can not tell you how to drive, but a cool little airport and was owned by good folks when I was flying down there.

Squim has a nice field also I think.

Where are you living? My Grandparents were on Dogfish Bay, so spent time as a kid around there.
I don't know where you've been me lad, but I see you won first Prize!

Apex airstrip is you best bet. It is only a few miles west of Silverdale and was a very nice grass strip the last time I landed there. Don't remember how long or wide it is but we went out of there a number of times in a c-210 and c-172's. There weren't many hangers as I recall but tie downs for sure. I was born and raised there, got my private out of Boing field but most of the training was at Bremerton National. Don't worry about getting shot down unless your on floats, it a navy town. Bremerton naval shipyard to the south of town, Trident sub base on hood canal to the NW and Keyport torpedo station to the north. Lived there for 46 years, moved to Anchorage in '97, hated the rain. I think there was a strip at Port Ludlow just on they other side of the Hood Canal floating bridge, Port Townsend, Sequim and Port Angles have nice airports check them out.

Apex is paved, but it looks like it would work. I'll go take a look. I'm right across from Keyport; I can hear them playing revelry every morning.

Are you on Keyport or Silverdale side?

Not much for grass anymore down there... why not floats?

    Apex is a neat place...

Tango: Just got back last night.
Drove up to 0S9 (Jefferson County) to look for a bulletin board to search for a hangar. Saw an open hangar door with some folks working on a Cessna, so went over for a chat. A small group soon gathered and it turns out the guy working on the Cessna flew in Alaska for awhile and thinks like me. And, yes you can land/depart from the grass alongside the taxiway. Prices are reasonable, but it's quite a drive.

I have floats, but I haven't had them on yet. Not sure I'd want to be on them in salt water (I hate corrosion). There seem to be a few lakes in the area with airplanes on them, so possibilities exist. It would be fun to have them down there.

Talked to someone at Apex; nice folks, but no hangars available right now. And it's paved. Anphibs would be nice, but I'd have to rob a bank.

Thanks for your comments; good tips.

Jefferson County meaning Port Townsend??? When I go up and visit my folks, we always fly to Port Townsend to grab a bite to eat. They have a great diner. There is a private grass strip just to the north of Port Townsend. Might want to talk to the owner. I walked into Tailspin Tommy's once and spoke with a man who worked there who owned the property...just a thought.

    Yup, they're the same.

WA68 is Sky Valley, about 2400' grass strip. We looked at a house for sale there, but decided that employment opportunities for my back-seater were too limited there, so we bought within commuting distance to Seattle.

I live in Indianola; near you. Your best bet probably is Bremerton for wheels, or Apex. I only fly floats, and corrosion is not a problem if you wash them down after each flight. I've been doing it for years. If you can find a lake nearby to tie up, that would be great. On floats, you can get fuel at Kenmore Air. Give me a shout if you have any questions.

Thanks Jim; I'll look you up when I get down there in the fall.
