Figures you would have the pubs figured out, Mr. Tadpole, or is it Private Tadpole again?

I don't know where Destin is, but Florida seems small... find Jack Brown's seaplane base and go fly. I think they have a twin Bee there, and a j-3
I don't know where you've been me lad, but I see you won first Prize!

Recommend a drive over to NAS Pensacola to check out the Museum of Naval Aviation.

    Museum website:

You may also be able to watch a Blue Angels practice show. Practice schedule is a .pdf on the right side of the page below. Looks like a couple possibilities during the time you will be there.

Of course I do! I concur if you have time to travel over to Jack Brown's. P-cola's museum is awesome too as mentioned.

And George, not back in yet, though it's probably going to happen.

Summertime in Destin,,,,There are plenty TO DO. ,, OH,, I forgot, your married.......

White sands! I used to enjoy catching Blue crabs alot. Crab pots are cheap, used chicken necks for bait. Get some cold beer and find a dock somewhere to drop your pots. Simple but fun...

Memphis, visit Beale St. And Peabody hotel for ducks. And Graceland....although, I never have. I've only been there 12-13 years. Lots od scrubber sandbars this time of year.

Destin, beaches, beaches, beaches. Back porch for a fish sandwich and beer on the sand. Red bar for dinner down in Grayton beach is a fave. Lots of fishing tours, but that's not our thing. Ingram Hill played down in seaside last night....they were great. Lots of live free entertainment. It's the busy season. We're in watercolor now. Lots of shops and restaurants along 30a. Ask anyone. Good luck.

Check out Bay Town Wharf. Lots of Golf around.

Rent some jet skis on the inner bay.

Good suggestion on NAS Pensicola, it's a cool museum, and not too far away.

eat at dewey destins. get the shrimp basket. The best water is at the beach on the southwest side of the bridge that leads to okaloosa island. I know this because Ive been flying up and down the beach for 2 weeks now. No waves and crystal clear. I'll be flying over everyday in the banner planes.

Kidding aside. Fun place. Seaside Florida is an interesting very quiet day trip http://www.seasidefl.com
Panama City Beach for a great public beach day. If the HogsBreath Saloon is still open it's a fun spot, used to have some good evening music.

The "donut hole" for breakfast. "Grazis" italian is a nice place, get the cheesecake for dessert.

Take a ride east to Seaside, Water Colors, etc.., nice places.

The muesem in Pensacola is awesome for plane lovers. My wife couldnt give two s--- about it

I like to go to the marinas and see how the other half lives as well. AJ's is a nice place to eat, drink, and walk around looking at boats.

    Be warned, traffic sucks!!

Lived in the area for 10 years and have a place in Navarre. Go to the beach and you'll see plenty to keep you entertained....that is unless the misses is with. Then you might want to get a very good set of shades.
I don't remember any seaplane operations in the area. That could have changed. Destin is literally on the gulf. Beautiful white sand beaches. make sure you have some sunscreen because you will get fired in a matter of minutes if you aren't already used to being in the sun. Did I mention getting some shapes to enjoy the scenery?
Nice area but this time of year the traffic gets SLOW.
Fudpuckers on the beach used to be a good place. Night life is NOT lacking there since it is the vacation area for college age kids with Destin having a lot of well known people owning condos there.
Have fun and take some pictures.....of the scenery of course.

One more thing I forgot to mention....Jack Browns is a LONG ways from Destin. As in several hundred miles.

Destin is very busy and lots of tourist but nice. You may have "June Grass" this time of year. I prefer the beaches along 30-A for a slower, more surf town feeling. 30-A is a 2 lane, 17 mile road lined with bike paths, restaurants, shopping and a better quality visit.

    Restaurants: Stinky's - get the Stinky's Stew

723 Whiskey Bravo- restaurant is located in Grayton Bch and owned by a couple from Atlanta that own a Cirrus. Nice aviation influence but not over done. Has rooftop bar and dining and an amazing view of the gulf.

Visit the following beaches along the way, Dune Allen, Seaside, Water Color, Grayton and Rosemary.

The Navel Aviation Museum in Navarre is really good!

Rent a small boat and hang out at Crab Island on a Saturday. Garrett, you have a picture of Crab Island from a weekend that you can post?

Give me call and tell me what you like to do, I can tell you more. I have a house there, visit every couple weeks. 770-862-5372

In addition to what Cal posted, Rendezvous in downtown Memphis for BBQ. http://www.hogsfly.com/ Never been to Graceland myself and lived a good part of my life in Memphis. FL in the summer is miserable, that coming from a current Texan.

I used to live in Destin, but it changed quite a bit since I left 20 years ago (now it is much more commercialized and built up with high rises, definitely not the Destin that I knew and loved). I liked AJ's, not sure it is still around though. I second the Back Porch that IFlyLower recommended!

Viiew of the bay and crab island looking South-South East. Unfortunately I get paid to fly around this paradise everyday

Crab Island. This is a Tuesday. Saturdays are crazy. The water is waste deep. Everyone walks around pulling their boats with a rope like a leash on a dog. If possible rent a pontoon boat from the place thats about 200 yards away and go anchor at crab island. Water is crystal clear until about 3pm. Tide changes and bay water swoops in.

If you like to fish then take your Spinning rod and hit the surf .Early in the mornibg before the wind picks up . Get some small jigs and have a ball with the Lady Fish . They are there in numbers all Summer .You can also pick up Spanish mackrel {you will need wire leader here] , and maybe a stray Pompano .....Great fun on light tackle The lady fish can be sight fished with your fly rod up close to the shore early morning , if you are into that ....... Some days the water is as clear as you will find on any beach in the Bahamas .....Have fun .... RC

Last note: the flying.... If your coming in IFR, well, it's IFR. Take the reroutes, always in contact, it's easy. If VFR..... Watch the sectionals, not just your Garmin. Lots of Military airspace, restricted use airspace and special VFR clearances required. It's not hard, just a little busy at times.

DTS could use a tower on the weekends. Lots of mix on planes. Jets, light twins, and many diff. singles, both IFR and VFR. Be ready to drop your drawers for fuel, but nice FBO. Panama city is a nice airport alternative. I've not tried any of the others...usually just DTS.

    Good luck.
