It sure flys nice, it has micro vg's and 800 tires. Needs to go on a diet though, there is alot of useless crap in it.

I did pretty good w/Spezio, only a couple #'s heavier than ser#1. Most of the useless crap sits in the back seat. "I" need the diet.

    Nice airplane

I like that one! I'll have to use it when our Champ is finished in a few months!
Had it hanging from the hanger ceiling for 7 years now it's going together for my first Daughter to learn in!

Congrats Tom, sweet looking bird. My dad had a couple champs before the SuperCubs came along.
We had a 7EC, then a 7GCB with 150hp. The 7EC was on 1400 EDOs, you put a fat man in the back on a hot day and you learn a lot about float flying.
Lets cook up a ride in a couple weeks to meet the new girl. Maybe we can get MR Tooltime to buy lunch. You can see the lines of the Scout in the granddad 7EC, kinda neat

    Jim

I'm game. It's kinda funny, the scout is almost exactly the same design as the o'l champs except for the vertical stab, and the thickness of the tubes.

If Tim buys lunch, we will all be eating veggies... Ha.

Good looking Champ. I like the colors and the paint scheme. Light weight 90hp Champ is a good performer. My Champ has been in our family since 1961, still an A-65 though.

Thanks guys. She is deff. A little chubby and will go on a diet this winter. I'm already loosing weight so it's her turn. She is just at 1000 empty

I had a champ with the same engine. First thing was a removal of the electrics... 45 lbs right off the get go just in starter, battery, alt., batt. box and big wires. Left the position light wires on.

Then I put hydraulic brakes on her, then Aero wheel skis and went flying. Man would it go places and come back! What fun, and cheap.

One note of caution with the nose tanks: when flying in cold weather (below freezing) the tank will get condensation in it just from flying. The heater will keep the fuel/air in the tank warm, then when you shut it off, if you park outside, the air and fuel cools forming condensation. When below freezing the condensation will freeze to the sides of the tank, or on the bottom. No big deal in the Cessnas, as the fuel stays cold and ice stays solid; in the champ when you warm the cabin you warm the fuel, which warms the ice which becomes water again and heads down into the fuel system - about the time you are at 2,500 feet on a brisk 10 degree day... if you are just tree hopping you may not have time to get the engine back.

So the moral of this story is, if you fly in the winter with her, and are not parked in a WARM place, you need to drain the fuel sump AFTER every flight to get all the water you can out. If you don't, it will freeze and not drain before the flight, building up until it is a problem.

Pretty obvious once you do it the first time, but if you are not a nose tank experience guy in cold weather, it may not be.

(your experience and mileage may vary from the above; I refuse to disclose how the above information was attained, nor will I disclose the name of the pilot's involved)

Good to know about the nose tank in the winter, and for now the electrics will stay, we live a a class d airport within a mode c veil, but there are some stuff I want to re do, and lighten up. Get rid of some of the cushy interior and insulation and some of the not needed wiring.

    Tom:

A guy at my local airport is putting a starter on a non electric 7AC champ this week. I had not known about this, it is some sort of bendix drive that uses a Dewalt 18V drill motor as the drive source. I know it is an stc kit. Have you seen this? Seems like a slick way to have a starter but lose the electrical.
When I get a free weekend day, we need to put out the call of the wild to go fly somewhere, will keep you posted.

Tom if you want to go to New Holstien, let me know. We have to leave Saturday to make the breakfast at Goose Creek on Sunday then head west. How much fuel does your Champ hold?

Tom, I usually leave the Friday before New Holstien, get to Goose creek Friday sometime, Fly around there Saturday with the locals, and Sunday after breakfast head to New Holstien. Save your money. How fast does that Champ go?

Edit- you may have to sell a motorcycle or a snow machine those things are dangerous

  35. #35
85-90mph ish.(doors open, prob. faster with them closed) Also need a climb prop too. it only turns 2200 on takeoff. Its a 48 pitch

Tom if you don't get your prop repitched before Phil's fly-in you can try my 71-44, but I think the 42 will be the right pitch for you.

Congrats on the plane Tom! Time to have some fun now.
