Narthex: an area at the west end of the nave of an early Christian church
separated off by a screen or railing behind which
women, catechumens, or penitents were admitted

Steve: As which exactly do you qualify?

  5. #85
Joe, they still used to call the "foyer" a "narthex" when I was a lad. It was not really big enough to be a foyer, just like Pierce's little narthex. Besides, sleeping five in a tent is a somewhat religious experience I am most certain and I am long on approbation for those who would venture it!

But to answer your question, I was the annoying, wiggly, preacher's kid - none of the other possibilities quite fit.

    ... "Pierce's little narthex"

Fortunately for Pierce, the definition of "narthex" has already been explained

  7. #87
Lori, we need a narthex to sit in for our post-flying beer or 3. Or can you only drink wine in the narthex? Who will be our server? I'd like piped in Country music too please.

    Dang.
    Back to the dictionary.

    (edited addition)
reflecting to that earlier posting .... we have far too many Steves
in this group. The housing qualification was directed at Pierce,
    Sorry for the slight.
I can only say I look with deep approbation upon your character.

So Krijn and I did some shopping in Chilton and Appleton and passed New Holstein on the way. The very airport where the 2012 SuperCub.org fly in is going to happen in a little more than a weeks time. Except for one guy waiting for his cousin to arrive from Madison, all was empty. But thanks to our AOPA app on the Iphone we got insdie so we could have a rest before travelling on. Till next week!

Supercub.org Command Center will soon be publishing rules of engagement for the Flour Bombing Competition, to be held on Wednesday, July 25 shortly before or after the Short Field Takeoff/Landing Competition.

Those interested should start forming up teams, as we will be wanting a Pilot and a Bombardier in each aircraft.

We will be having a special target for the competition...stay tooned

If you have suggestions, please pm them to me soon, as THE RULES will be posted later today

SteveE, you know that I don't subscribe to ridiculing people with disabilities, but....

Get your sorry, gimp shoulder together, climb into that supercub and see if YOU might be the first ever world champion New Holstein flour bomber

I would suggest instead of CO2, go to KBUU. Best price for fuel in just about all of Wisconsin (currently 4.99/gallon). I keep my pa-12 there, and if you have any problems, give me a shout......good luck.

A few important bullet points to remember about the new holstein fly in

Folks please take a minute to review these important bullet points about the New Holstein Fly In before you arrive:

    • All Tricycle Gear aircraft will be tied down on the main ramp by the FBO. We will help you get your stuff over to the camping area. Cubs on Amphibs are OK in the main camping area.
    • RUNWAY 22 IS LEFT TRAFFIC DURING THE EVENT! IT HAS BEEN NOTAMED AS SUCH.
    • THERE IS NO RESERVED PARKING. Please don't reserve spots for your friends, etc. New Holstein is not that big, so it is not really necessary. First come, first served.
    • If you are driving, we like to try to keep car traffic to the pavilion at a minimum - ESPECIALLY ON WEDNESDAY. We have a "car park" area that is well marked. PLEASE NO CARS IN THE AIRCRAFT CAMPING AREA EXCEPT THOSE PICKING UP FOR SHOWERS, ETC. On the South Side of the Pavillion where Bushwheel Central is, there will be some room to park cars and camp with your car as well as room for those who are unable to easily walk from the car park.

    • PLEASE REVIEW THE NOISE SENSITIVE AREA INFO HERE: http://www.supercub.org/NewHolstein/2011Noise.pdf
    • There will be folks around to help you get settled in. Please use the 123.0 frequency at New Holstein. When you land, let them know you need help finding a spot if you do. Don't be shy!
    • Unlike many other fly ins, The City of New Holstein is VERY involved in this event. Please take time to express your appreciation to them for all they do. If you don't mind hopping a ride or two, there will be opportunities to do so - it's a great way to give back.
    • MOST IMPORTANT: Relax! We are here for the camaraderie and mutual appreciation of aviation. If something is not right, let us know and we will work on it.

Tom, I'm flying in to Oshkosh Sunday and then coming over to NH either Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning. Same thing I did in 2007. Two days at Oshkosh is about right for me.
