    Grove brake caliper rub

I have an older style of Grove wheels and brakes that came with my TCOW kit.
After a few hundred landings I noticed that the out board side of the caliper is rubbing the inside of one of my 26" Goodyears.
I had thought about making a spacer to space the rotor out from the wheel to move the caliper farther inboard.
I understand that the new style Grove wheels have the rotore spaced more inboard than mine.
Anybody run into this, and what was your fix?
    Thanks

on cleavlands you grind the offending brake pieces edge down so they don't rub (with-in reason of course) used to be very common with the old airstreaks.. not sure on grove...

Hi Paul, I haven't ever suffered the problem you're talking about but at the Alaska Trade Show I met Robbie Grove, I'm pretty sure if you call and talk to him he'd have a fix for you in no time. A straight up guy and his product quality is First Rate.

    Good luck, Dennis

I bought my wheels 2 yrs ago and had the same problem with 29" tires. Robbie makes a 1/8" spacer that fits between the rotor and the wheel half. You can also make one fairly easily...just about a 1" wide circle with the bolt holes in it. Don't forget to upsize your wheel bolts.

also pay attention to the caliper pin lengths/engagement when you add spacers to disc...

Cleveland worried about that with 8:50s. Contact Robbie - he is destined to take over all these kinds of components. I run his brakes, master cylinders with reservoirs, and Decathlon gear legs (on the Dec, of course). All of his stuff is superb.
the spacer is a great idea, but I bet Robbie has the definitive answer.

Cleveland makes an aluminum spacer ring to move the disc farther from the tire. Be sure and do as Mike says if you use a spacer ring. The pins on the calipers must engage the holes in the torque plates enough to prevent them from twisting out of the plates. Don't ask me how I know this. I'll lie to you.

Did ole Bear Dog help you one day TJ?

If I were to use a spacer between the wheel and the disc, I would want full engagement on the disc to spacer, and spacer to wheel. If you just had small spacers at each bolt (like a washer behind the disc), the disc can warp a bit when brakes are applied, and may eventually break the disc at the edge of the spacers...

Seen the results of a disc coming apart on a short strip, and it is bad.

Not saying that was the idea mentioned, just thought I would put my thought out there.
I don't know where you've been me lad, but I see you won first Prize!

Just got off the phone with Grove. They have a kit to space the rotar 1/8" from the wheel with longer bolts.
I should be back in the air this weekend.
    Thanks for the good info.
