2012 Dakota Cub Open House - Sat. June 2nd

    All,

We're moving the open house to the weekend so more local pilots can attend if they want. If you're on your way to the Breaks or Johnson Creek, you're more than welcome to stop by during the week for a place to set up camp on your trek west. Just give us a heads-up!

Like last year, we'll have food, airplanes, and fun people. Stop on by and get a tour of the facility, poke around airplanes or take a flight, and get fed too! Last year's thread: http://www.supercub.org/forum/showth...ght=dakota+cub

I lost a bet to Gunny and the deal is he has to show up (since he bailed last year) to collect. We'll see what happens

The Iowa contingent had winds last year, so we are hoping for good weather and an even better showing this year.

Bill and Yvette Tracy approve of the DCA open house

Information and response poll here: http://dakotacub.wordpress.com/2012/...ouse-june-2nd/

I'll post some photos from last year in a bit--on the other hard drive.

Isn't that in competition with the Atlin fly-in?

And I thought you were brining up the super-18 to Atlin for me to fly....

    sheesh
I don't know where you've been me lad, but I see you won first Prize!

Lesseee......spend $1,000 to collect $20. If I was a government manager I'd be all over this.....

Now last time you were going to come without any gas refund--now you'd at least get $20!

Dug up photos from last year's event:

1.) There must be a good story there.

2.) Yes, we welcome all airplanes!

    3.) We even fixed it.

4.) Fran, Diana, Yvette, and Bill all spent the night and headed west the next morning.

5.) The DCA open house in a nutshell--friends and family, airplanes and food. And hopefully good weather!

Let's get this thread back on target. Sorry for my hand in thread creep. I am looking forward to being at the open house. Economics dictates that I will be driving but no matter - it will be great to be there and especially great to see my brother Marines, RJ and Ray!!. So - who else is gonna be there?

If I can tear the guys away from the day old donuts and coffee at Boone Saturday morning, several ( maybe 5 or 6 ) of us from Iowa will be there. I had to drive last year and the food and hospitality were great.

I'm planning on it. I think Randy, Curt and Wayne are also. So Central Iowa should be well represented Ralph. Although I hate to miss your day old donuts......

http://dakotacub.wordpress.com/2012/...ouse-june-2nd/ There is a poll there as well so that the guys at DCA can ensure there's adequate food

Menu being created this weekend I am told; the idea is a lunch and dinner or whenever you traipse in.

A little birdie told me "bourbon-teriyaki-glazed beef kabobs" with chips and Mark's trademark salsa, chips and dip, melon, and soda with the makings for root beer floats. Think that will pull you away from the donuts, Ralph? Getting hungry just thinking about it. Believe the first kabobs will hit the grill around noon or perhaps slightly before.

    Anyone staying over/camping?

Tomorrow, ladies and gents! Tent is up, kabobs being prepared.

If I show up do I get to see Mark's black ops project?

I think that just applies to you since you don't know what it is yet.

It was all revealed to me last week You're behind!

The Iowa contingent brought up 5 Cubs (4 Super Cubs, 3 of which were experimental and 1 certified, and a Super Cruiser). We had a Pacer from Minnesota as well--Minnesota, South Dakota, you have some to do!

How about the motorcycle from Nebraska...???

Thank you Mark and Amy. I had a wonderful time and the food was unbelievable. I plan on ordering one of you gasolators - thanks for showing it to me. Ralph

One of the most honored guests since you were the owner of 160AK's alter ego!

And truth be told I missed an Iowan Super Cruiser in there. 5 Cubs, 1 Super Cruiser. Oops.

I downloaded the pictures last night and sent them to DCA so they may pop up on the blog too, but here they are.

Too many red-and-whites to keep track of. But probably a good tactic for causing trouble. "It was red-and-white, officer!" Just like the other 3 . . .

There is a wing peeking in the picture that makes #6.

Phyllis is DCA's favorite lady as she regularly brings homebaked goodies to the shop around afternoon break time. Saturday she took a break and enjoyed someone else's cooking! (She and Ray also celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday)

    Some of the suspects.

What could possibly go wrong? 2 Super Cubbers with a map . . .

Departures--we had a veritable flying circus for about 10 minutes as the Iowa contingent departed and circled the field to gather up.

More in a bit, maxed out the attachments.

    More departures

Shady repose (for the airplane and the people)

Yup, looks like some fun was had!

Lots of standing around talking about airplanes--so, all in all, a success!

And the light was pretty and I had a cool lens to play with so I tried to blow the dust off of my photo skills. May or may not have succeeded but here you go anyways :P

Okay, I know I am getting old....but how the heck did I forget about this? I actually was looking for a place to fly and ended up at a Fly-in in Alexandria, MN. I had planned on going to Dakota Cubs shin-dig and for some weird reason I was thinking it was this coming weekend. Gee, I need to get check for old-timers!!!! Truly sorry to have missed it. It was a beautiful day for flying, albiet quite bumpy unless you got high.
    Sorry I missed everyone....maybe next year....if I can remember.

Keith, I am sure you can always make the trek out and call the guys up to visit! Otherwise I imagine it will be the same time next year (unless anyone wants to go skiing?)
