    Alaska Super Cub Fly In

Where: Gracious House Lodge, Mile 82 Denali Highway, Cantwell Alaska 63.14N 147.53W

On page 105 of your Alaska Atlas D/5.5

    When: July 13, 14 and 15

I have been talking to Butch and Carol about hosting us for a fly in. There is a dirt strip at the lodge about 1300" with a good approach and the highway which is much longer. There is a lake not far away, and I am sure we can work out ground transportation for those on floats. Plenty of room to tie down. Good rooms, food, and accommodations. Fuel can be had, but you will need to put it in your own can, and transfer to your aircraft and sign a waiver.

This is not going to be a fly-in for the faint of heart. The country is gnarly, the weather can be tricky. Butch has operated the lodge forever and has taken a cub everywhere a cub can go in that part of the world. He is willing to share his experience and landing zones with us. This is truly an opportunity to learn about this part of the state from an “old timer” who still flies his cub every day.

I would think folks would like to arrive Friday afternoon or Saturday morning, spending a night or two. Butch and Carol are working up a package deal for us and I should have prices in the next week. First I wanted to see if there was any interest from the group.

Please post if you desire to attend.

I might try and drive up, or get AK climber to join me with his bird...

Maybe Dale can bring a rifle to use for security...

spring is here, three work calls this week... bummer.

If you drive bring fuel and beer. If you fly bring whiskey

    Dale,

    I hope.

    26H... I will.

If I drive I could put the pup tank in the back and fill it in fairbanks... 230 gallons.

This event really does have the makings of a real adventure for those who have never been around that part of the woods. With a nice place to stay, good food, gas, and the wonderful hospitality of Butch and Carol. I think the cost will come in less than $200.00 per person per day for a room and three squares per day. I should have a price soon.
i am sure butch will have the sauna going and plenty of firewood for the fire pit.

This is a beautiful place to visit.

I'm pretty sure I'll still be in Alaska on those dates, if you guys don't mind a dirt sucking desert dweller crashing the party I'd love to drop in and say 'HowDo'

    Butch's reply to the float plane question is as follows;
"The lake has access only by way of my road and land, and I have never had a problem except for tourists wanting to take pics but there is no one on site to guard them. No tie downs but can tail them into the shore and tie off, usually OK."
