    Pa-18 floats on a J5?

Does anybody know of someone rigging the gear from a super cub to a J5? Im not asking about making it legal but if someone has experience with converting the gear to fit a "fat cub"

Legs are the same. You can use the PA-12 shock strut ends to put hydrosorbs on if you want.

Unless you have the float tube welded in the J-5 gear is not as strong.

Well my J5 was on floats once upon a time with a previous owner and I am pretty sure that most changes have been made including the float tube welded. Or most changes to make it closer to a j5"c" while mines originally a j5"A". I guess my concern is more towards finding the center of gravity?

IS there a field approval for the floats in your paperwork? I forget which floats if any are approved on the A model.

From the Type Certificate Data Sheet A-725 http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Gu...FILE/a-725.pdf the EDO 2000 floats add 183 pounds at 14.5" aft of the wing leading edge. This is the added weight taking into consideration the old weight with the landing gear.

From the EDO W&B affidavit for a PA-12 the EDO 2000s weigh 265 Pounds at 14.2" aft of the wing leading edge. This is just the float weight. You need to do the math removing the landing gear.

Since you have a J-5A model you will need some kind of approval, FYI.
