What do you think of These?

A friend recently bought a Carbon Cub SS. I was rather taken by the top deck window vent arrangement. He has yet to test them in heavy weather or leave it out in the open during rain so couldnt tell me if they leak or not. Im thinking of incorporating them into my restoration.

What do you guys reckon?? Im sure the Alsakan folk wont want any more 'fresh air' but we are fairly Temperate here in NZ.

Fine for a hangared airplane and sunny days.

Give them a try, worst case you have to install a new plexi or lexan skylight, no worries

The first time I saw these vents was in 2005 at Oshkosh on a Cubcrafter Sport Cub. They were new then and Jim Richmond, founder of Cubcrafters was very impressed that they did not leak on the trip to Oshkosh, flying through rain. So now it is 7 yrs later and they are still installing them -- I would say you are safe in giving it a try.
When a prang seems inevitable, endeavor to strike the softest, cheapest object in the vicinity, as slowly and gently as possible.— advice given to RAF pilots during W.W.II.

They are on my Sport Cub, they leak if you leave them open. Otherwise I have not had any trouble with them. I think one camping trip with a horrendous thunderstorm I had water in the cabin.

I have them, they don't leak unless you leave it open or did a crappy job installing them. They are awesome for their intended purpose, inexpensive, and easy to install.

Kind of a cool idea. I wonder how much better they work vs the side window mounted vents? I fly with the windows and doors open most of the summer and, your not going to get much better ventilation than that.

I've flown a bunch of Carbon and Sport Cubs and I like them. I think they work better than side mounted vents, never seen one leak in flight, or in any we kept tied down outside after raining. Though I have seen some leaks from other places, just not these vents.

I have them installed in the small triangle window and it lets a lot of air in the only problem is the wind will affect the mic if not adjusted away only a problem with someone on board and intercom is turned on.

Can someone provide an Aircraft Spruce link to the exact one's they use? or some other supplier. If they don't leak I'm interested, when I saw them I figured they'd leak. Not that it rains in AZ but sometimes I head up to Idaho.

I added Snap Vents in the doors on my -12. They work fine but as I park outside year-round I'd never even consider them in the skylight. If you go to buy Snap Vents be aware that there are two sizes. The larger ones tilt out to vent and since they rotate the opening can be directed any direction you choose. These are the ones that close flat. The smaller size Snap Vents are a different design and do not close flat and seal. I bought some of those, too, but refused to install since there was no way to close them to prevent bugs from getting inside the plane.

I installed mine with a router and a template I made easily on a drill press. I rounded the edges of the hole with a rounding-over bit intended for plastic laminate. I'd be hesitant to take a drill to installed plexiglass but others may have had success doing it that way.

    The good ones-
