    PA-11 battery and alternator mod

Was wondering if any one has done a underseat battery mod for a PA-11. Got one in shop that has a lycoming 0-235 and the guy wants to shed some weight. Also, does anyone now of a lightweight alternator mod for a PA-11? Thanks

Just an air driven generator on mine. Not sure about an O-235 though, I just have a C-90

Do you have an approval for the battery and starter in the PA-11? C90-12F? Help!

    Thanks,

    To the battery relocation?
Once again, review AC43.13 2B chapter 10 and you'll see the approved path to relocate your battery and it allows non TSO batteries. No STC or field approval is required. The chapter starts on page 107. http://www.airweb.faa.gov/REGULATORY...A?OpenDocument
Alternator? I like B&C but the new Plane Power is awfully popular and looks pretty nice. No STC for either? The last field approval I got on my planes was a B&C alternator/regulator installation on my Cessna. Pretty simple. You might also consider the Denso internally regulated alternator. Call Stoddard's in Anchorage for info about it. They usually have one on the counter. It's been discussed on this site in the past. http://www.supercub.org/forum/showth...ght-alternator

On page 113 it says something like " note - a field approval or STC is required for this type of installation.". I am having serious problems getting field approval applications even recognized. They ignore them. This was not always true.

Seriously, Bob? That reference is for replacement of nicads with lead acid batteries where a removal of a temperature monitor is required. That triggers a modification of the flight manual which requires FAA review and approval. This is a Cub site. Not applicable.

That is good news indeed. I will read it again.

Bob, Submit your 337 for field approval, they must send you a response in writing, if not go up the chain of command.

Thanks Steve. I even cited the reference - they are required by regulation to respond in writing. They did not, even after I asked. It is moot; the part I tried to get approval for is now PMA and Cub owners can make a log entry to use it.

So who is the "chain of command?". I want to address this with the ACO person who wrote AC 23-27.

Go to the inspectors supervisor and then you can go to John Duncan who is the FSDO deputy director.

    Thank you.

I note that 43-13 2A is acceptable methods, not approved methods - but I also note that the paragraph I cited above is indeed in a separate section, and often including a statement like that in one spot means it is excluded elsewhere.

Still, acceptable methods are not approved data, are they?
