Alaska's Mat-Su Borough $75 Aircraft Tax Repealed!!

I was one of only 10 pilots who showed up last night to the Mat-Su Borough Assembly meeting to advocate passage of the Ordinance to repeal the annual $75 "Registration Tax". Thankfully it passed unanimously in the vote. Finally this do nothing, luxury tax is off our backs in the Mat-Su Borough! A big thanks should go to Big Lake Assembly member Darcie Salmon for sponsoring this ordinance.

To those who have past due balances with the borough over this tax, the assembly is considering everything from doing nothing to selling the past due taxes to collection agency.

I wrote a letter to a number of admin. I think it is the best thing to happen to Palmer in a long time. That is the first step in getting some planes back into the area. We need to shut off some of the wind. But, Yaaayyy. That was a dumb tax. Sooo happy it's gone.

I new a lady that was on the Borough assembly and she said to me one time about 5 yrs. ago; "If you can afford an airplane you can certainly afford to pay the $75". It is this type of attitude on the assembly that we have to avoid.
Also, Friends of Mat-Su is no friend to the private airstrip/airplane owner.
