    Window Seals/Weather strip

I need to replace my old leaky side sliding window seals / weather strips. (the ones which are rubber/felt) Looking on Univairs website at P/N 11648-02, Their description says "Window Channel". It also seems to be made from Gold based on their price?! I dont want to order it and find some steel channel turns up instead of the seals!

Has anyone bought these recently.. is there a better (cheaper) supplier?

You can also get these from antique car parts suppliers or auto glass replacement places. i get mine from a local window place that also replaces auto glass in older vehicles. $22.00 for 8 ft. sections, no shipping

    Steve,
Do you have any other number from JC Whitney for the channel? I went to there web site and the number wasn't in there system. They started a customer service chat with me and asked for make and model of vehicle. So ........ I told them Piper Super Cub ...... they hung up on me Had to do it to them; my bad. Any other numbers or catalog #? I'm planning the doors for my project so this is a timely post.
    Thanks,

A thought. If your channels are not deteriorated why not just glue a strip of felt folded into a U shape into the old channel? Felt comes in various thicknesses and densities.

They still sell that channel go to the web site that Steve posted and look on the Right side it shows style 1 steel core window channel click on that and go to style 8 and the part number is 0078-6 not 00786 as Steve had posted.

It is a box on the Right that says people who bought this item also bought these. If you still can't find it when my Son comes over I will get the address that takes you direct to it, I am not sure how to do that.

I ordered the above felt window channel, had my local tin man make some mild steel 1/2 channels for it to go into, drilled lots of lightening holes and welded it to the window frame of my experimental project. DSC00275.JPG

How do you guys mount the Plexiglass in the channel to slide without scuffing the adjacent window and leaving scratch marks? do you put a thin felt strip on one of the panes somewhere?

Soft side of velcro or if you buy the window kit from Cub Crafters they provide a soft rub strip for this.

Hi Binty, the link you show is the channel that mounts into the airframe. How did you go with the steel core/felt covered strip that glues onto the window itself?

The perspex for the rear sliding window on my Cub is nicely beveled and slides freely. The front slider is 1/8 th perspex not beveled. It has always been stiff.

Anyone with suggestions on how to bevel or chamfer a new piece of perspex?

    Regards, Denis.

That is a good video. I have never seen that method of cutting plexiglas. I use a band, table or skill saw with a fine tooth blade. Then a hand file or belt sander to smooth the edge. Be careful not to take too big a bite, when cutting, so as not to break out little chunks which could cause cracking. Making the edge smooth is important to avoid stress cracking. Make very sure than the edge is perfectly smooth before you try to bend it. Use heat to soften before bending. There are heat strips available which help with the bending process.
