Thanks Keith, The salt thing is true. Pigs cannot metabolize excessive salt if consumed over a period of a few days especially if short on water. It causes cerebral edema and they siezure uncontrollably. Eaton is of the hook. This is probably the only TRUE statement he has made on this site. Rick

I guess all those Salt licks that are out there for cattle, the Hogs dont lick? Here in Texas we have a Post mortim and Anti Mortum inspection, if the meat is to be proccessed for public. Does anyone else have this.

They won't just eat the salt in enough quantity free choice. it needs to be >10% in an extremly palatable feed sorce to have them eat it in a large enough amount to do the trick.

Mark, You are absoutly correct. Ante and post mortem inspection is require for all commercial packing plants. USDA rules. ( Like FAA ).

Rick, I forgot what they are looking for. But with deer, we have Blue tounge, showing up in warmer weather. This comes from Gnats or Midges as we flyfisher like to call them. The cold rids us of the gnats for awile. The Blue tounge causes hemroging out of opennings ,nose, etc. Alot of Game farms mostly.
