The Factoids: I have "something over 170 hp" & my Borer 41" prop spins up over 2800 rpms, so it's too fine of pitch. On a 3 hr/leg trip to Kraploops & back, I burned 5 gal/hr at both 2400 & 2600rpms. The "Research": I've read & been told that no matter what, it will take more gas to get more speed or to cover more ground. The Question: How can I determine for sure what the best prop pitch for me will give the best efficiency without reinventing this wheel? I'm sure this has been done many times, but cannot find a definitive answer. Is there such thing as a best pitch for 170hp HP on a Cub?? STOL is not real important, I'd be willing to give up a bit of TO distance if I could pick up some top end (for longer trips w/o fuel avail) without increasing the fuel burn too much. Edit/Add... I want to be able to cover the most ground for the least fuel (sometimes). Thanks (I hope)
