Anyone know the condition of the Horsefeld (4Z5) strip?
Is it even usable?

Not for a low time pilot with low time in his new FANCY HOTROD 170B![]()
I don't know where you've been me lad, but I see you won first Prize!
No PIREP for this year. As of last year it was a rough 2 track path in places, some places wider. Plenty long. Useable without bushwheels or anything special. Seem to recall a crosswind landing path, but never checked it out. Used regularly by outfitters.
... Just thinking of alternatives if it doesn't look like I'll make it to Northway in one jump from Haines.
Chisana would be the next stop - but I'll need good weather to clear those mountains.
And you're right, the chart shows it at 900' length at 3300 feet - a bit tight for my comfort so far.
Chisana is not much up, just along and down. If you get to Horfeld, you should get to Chisana
Catch Vern at the airport for full info, or Steve... We flying tomorrow?

Not all that long, skinny with brush and a bit of a depression along the tracks. Go to Chisana, that is a big big nice runway and after a long haul crossing the foreign country of Canada you really want a nice big big runway.Avoiding customs can really wear on your mind for a couple of hours as you are overflying. If you really need to land right now after Canada, go for Ptarmigan Lake, a much wider and easier deal. Not so much terrain around that could get you during a go around or low flyover like at Horsfeld.
George,
Yes - I'll call you.
Chris, that must be the "U"nverified strip just south of Horsefeld?
