Anyone know how the Grove Gear attaches to the fuselage? Are you able to use the existing landing gear pickup points? Do you need to beef up the fuselage? Any info will help!

First I heard of that application. Is this for Cub?
I seen one on a producer, It's a one piece spring gear flat across the bottom of the fusalage and you will need to make new mounts.
Also seen one on a pa16 exp.
Check with the Banner guys that use them on their cubs.
I've looked at them close and they pick up the four gear attach points with U shaped bracket that the Grove gear bolts to.
I think the name of the outfit is VanWagner (?) or something and the planes are blue and white.

Grove does make the setup for Super Cub banner birds. For some reason the local banner guys took them off and went back to stock gear. I will be going over to Grove next week, and I will ask. I am pretty sure it is bolt-on, and also fairly sure the FAA will be reluctant to issue a field approval.
This picture is from a current post over on SWP. There is a thread about the gear on a pacer that links to this picture. Called the Rupp Racer.

I did see a super pacer with 170 landing gear last weekImageUploadedByTapatalk1309647111.538310.jpg
He said it was alot of work and would not do it again
I imagine you would pickup some cruise speed, but, I don't see any advantage in having alu-spring gear on a cub...
less parts
faster change
less drag
less weight maybe?
I don't know where you've been me lad, but I see you won first Prize!
Hard to use your brakes when your spring gear is launching you in the air over every hole and bump.....
There is that!

Will not be less weight ! Next time you get a chance go to Grove's site and check out the weights!!!!!!!!!

There is an STC for steel C-172 gear legs for the PA-18. The holder sent me some literature in the 1970 time frame, and indicated that the SC would get 140 mph with this simple change. And I have this neat bridge in Brooklyn, for not much $$ . . .
The Cub gear is so good that folks are actually putting it on PA-12s and even some of those short wing airplanes. And while the aluminum gear will save me 14 lbs on my Decathlon, there is no way I would consider either of the other options for the Cub - that gear is tried and true. And I agree, the aluminum gear would probably not be lighter than the tube and fabric gear.

Look at old pictures of Van Wagner banner towing cubs, they used to use spring gear on almost all their cubs but now they have gone back to bungees except for their 250hp O-540 powered super cub still has spring gear because they need longer gear for prop clearance.
