I think I tried the phone number I had for you and it didn't work. Can I get to you through Doug K.? Love to see what you got. Thanks. D

MikeO, I'm calling your Hired Gun tomorrow to up the stakes!!!!!!!!!!
Mackey Slats and Keller Double Slotted Flaps.
What a combination.
How slow can you go???
And still retain cruise speed..............

The Hired Gun From Kansas likes KOBE BEEF MEDIUM RARE WITH RED WINE ,hope you don't disapoint him !!! Mikeo
Randy, don't believe that bs from Mikeo, Ed dosent drink so Mike probably wants the wine for himself.

Any more on the flaps?????
MikeO, I saw a set of wing spars and ribs at Dougs hangar in Aurora. Rumor they're yours. Had a nice time with those guys and had lunch, too.
Sorry, I didn't take the time/driving-effort to get up to you.
Thats ok Dave I've been shunned by the best !!!Mikeo
Yeah, sorry for allowing my traveling companion to have a say in our activities.![]()
Thought I would post an update. I have built 4 sets of custom flaps and have 7 sets on back order. It takes me about two weeks to build a set (nights and weekends). If the interest continues I will need to get some help building these things. If anyone knows of anyone in the Portland area with exceptional sheet metal skills looking for a part time job please let me know.
Still working on certification, but that is proving to be more costly and time consuming than originally expected. Not giving up, it will just take some time. Alaskan Bushwheels is helping me with the certification endeavor and they will be building, selling, and supporting the certified product when and if certification happens.
For people that might be interested in the Anchorage area, you can contact Randy Goza in Wasilla. Randy has a set of flaps on his aircraft and would be willing to talk to you regarding the product and it's performance benefits.
Thanks,
Doug

Doug The flaps fit fine on my certified cub , what a great product . I heard Sterling is looking for work!!! Mikeo

Doug's flaps are working good with the slats. I've had similar results as MikeO reported earlier; shorter takeoffs, and slower wheel landings. And I still have the ability to stand it up on the slats for a extreme nose high landing.
We had a lot of fun ripping around nearly all day Saturday in the Wasilla area.
Very impressive.

Wow, that is crazy cool! Neat stuff
Two more sets of Doug's Flaps are headed to Alaska soon.
Too Bad Valdez wasn't this week!!!!!
MikeO, I'm getting ready for that "Hired Gun from Kansas"!!!
Randy
Randy, Several other GREAT pilot's like yourself have said the same thing in the past ask them HOW IT WORKED OUT!!!!! Just remember "When Your a Gunslinger from Kansas Your a Gunslinger from Kansas" Mikeo
Are they as effective as your extended cord flaps in the extreme nose high landings with the leading edge slats?

Steve,
I did not loose any extreme nose high performance. Still very impressive.
Can't reveal to much incase that "Hired Gun from Kansas" is keeping up with this thread, his knees might start knocking!!!
Or MikeO's might!!!!![]()

Randy And I thought I had the corner on BS, Sounds like The Mississippi training is starting to show!!! Mikeo
Its called a Husky
Now, if someone could come up with a Cub mod that would allow it to cruise at 150mph and still retain it's stol properties, that would really be exciting.
Phil[/QUOTE]
Randy , Husky !! No doubt faster than a cub , but if I wanted that kind of transpirtation get a 172 cessna mikeo oh that's not true a 172 has room for baggage an a usable trim system!!
I feel for the Husky guys. They gotta come hang out with the Cub guys to have a good time.![]()

did I hear a rumor that Husky was working with Chrysler?
I have a new places for the Hired gun to rest and practice this spring!
I don't know where you've been me lad, but I see you won first Prize!
Doug,
Any thoughts on including other planes in the R&D??? Since your working with Bill, I would think he would have some interest for the Maule world. Ok I said it. Let the bashing begin. Loved my cubs when I had them and yes I still snoop the cub sites. Family has expanded to 4 now and they are not old enough to leave any on the river bank while I make trips so I had to make a change. I would think that with the already huge flap that the Maule m6 and m7 has, you would have structural issues and tail issues. Just wondering if you had thought about other planes.
We have talked about the Maule but currently only working on the Cub. Not much demand for experimental Maule parts.
Thanks Doug. If these got certified on the Maule I would think there would be a market. Cool flaps! Can't wait to see them in action. I'm guessing we will see some some at Valdez next year.
Is there going to be some ultra lite 3 piece ribs avaliable soon?

Excellent project. Have you thought about end plates? Maybe some fences along the bottom to minimize span-wise flow..that might be where your turbulence is coming from...my concern would be what happens to the hangers or the rear spar web when some yay-hoo pops the flaps down at too high an airspeed....maybe some doublers on that .016 false spar to spread the stress around a bit, or extend them forward to the rear spar cap.
After some gap sealing tests I did a long time ago, I came to the conclusion that profile drag from that 16% airfoil was the main reason we didn't go faster. But, with all these cool high lift devices, maybe we can get along with a 12% airfoil...??![]()
Wow! I just received my Performance STOL flaps and got them installed. What a class act Doug has going there. The workmanship is superb, the installation was very well thought out and engineered, and the performance is all it was cracked up to be. I have to admit I was a little worried that would not be the case, but I am very pleasantly put at ease. Lost about 6 mph on touch down with a great deck angle allowing for good visibility. AH, like just keeps getting better & better. Thanks, Doug

Good for you, Greg. Bad for the wolves.
Thanks for the pirep. I'm so jealous. I hope Doug finds his way to an approval for the certified category. 6 mph slower at touchdown should be a significant safety incentive for the FAA to help make this mod available to the fleet. I'd like to see it work that way.
I presume the flaps improve take-off as well? Any comments?

Doug
Would be interested in a set of your flaps....currently have a experiemtal cub with Mackey slats, extended tail feathes, stall fences, VG's, highly modified 320-A2B pushing 190 + horses, 31 bushwheels, Dakota Cub wings with 3 hangars & drooping ailerons with Mackey crossover hookup with flaps.

Greg,
Glad to hear that you are pleased with the flaps and the performance gain. Sorry it took so long to get them to you, it takes time to build these things. It was great meeting you at your home last May. Please send me a picture of your cub with the new flaps if you get a chance.
Thanks,
Doug
