Sot landing mania. Here is something fun to hit with that super-cub

Forgive me if this was a overpost.

Hi there. Check out the new white blocks painted on the gravel (new gravel) runway at Palmer. There will be more gravel runways with these blocks painted on them. It was a effort from the Safety Team (FAAST). Kudos to them for doing something that is needed. I played with them all day long. There are white blocks painted every 50 foot on the runway. They are used to determine how short you are taking off and landing. I am using them as a aiming point for the students and for the advanced guys alike. I now know how bad I really am at landing... Let me know what you think of them so I can provide some good feedback to the FAA.

    Thanks,

    Artic,

I got the word via the NOTAM "non standard markings on runway". What a great idea. We definitely have a good STOL practice area at Palmer.

Thanks for the look Jerry. I went back out with a couple more guys. They are actually 100 footers. I just thought I was landing in 50 feet...

I think it is a great idea, I have been using the asphalt edge transition to the ski strip at Birchwood to work out the spot landings, that has the advantage of a very tactile feedback (if you are short you can tell, but no damage). I really like the idea of the additional markings for spot landings and takeoff runs, great way to dial yourself in.
