My last video shot with the drift. First time for me taking of a small lake, about 1600' with trees. Did a couple takeoff before and I felt it was really safe doiing it.
Sorry for the same song again. Just like this song and wanted to put it in one of my video....
Heres another video I shot this Saturday. It was a great day to be out.
Nice work... great spot to spend the day!!
Couple videos now that the floats are on. The last landing in this one is around 10:45 pm on the Solstice:
Almost got a loon kill at 0:28 of this one:
Henny, please keep the movies coming! They are great! Thx.
Here's a no-frills video of my approach and landing at Cabin Creek last weekend.

Here are a few clips from a cellular telephone. I did not feel like using the GoPro(s). The remote works on the GoPro(s)!
I call this slide show "Travel to the Cascades"

"Cool. Thats some pretty hard core music ya got there."
Thank you. I used to play a Fender Strat and a Pignose Amp.
So is the consensus that the drift is the best action camera to get? I'm ready to purchase one, but torn between them.
Any last words of wisdom?
Fast or slow, always low, freedom of flight soothes the soul.
I've had the Drift for a couple months now and really like the remote, rotatable lens and the durability. That being said, I think I may spring for a GoPro 2 based on the video quality I have seen (especially 16B's videos) and the fact that it now has a remote. Cubonaut875 posted some good comparison video on page 3 and page 5 of this thread. Also, I think Pokette and Mountainmatt may have done some comparisons. I know SB has several cameras, but not sure if he has invested in the latest GoPro or not. I'll defer to them for their opinion. At 333 responses, it takes a while to go back and review, but I think it is a very informative and worthwhile thread.
A video I threw together of taxi, takeoff, and a couple landings at Johnson Creek last weekend. One of my favorite places on earth!

I gotta go with the GoPro Hero2. I have a Contour, Nflight+, Drift HD, GoPro 1, and the GoPro2. The options, and the quality are great with the GoPro. The picture quality in all light conditions is great. The NFlight + is great for through prop shots, but the battery life is very limited, field of view is not as great as the GoPro2, no remote, I have a audio hum that I can't get rid of when I plug it into my com system and it's price point is rather high. The Drift is durable, has a remote and a rotating lens (GoPro does not have a rotating lens - not a problem if you use a RAM mount), but the picture quality is no where near the GoPro.
Here is a video that shows a comparison between GoPro2 - camera on the aft lift handle, GoPro2 on the left wing strut, Original Contour NFlight in the cockpit (had to use it as it does not have an audio hum like NFlight+, but it does have prop artifact since it does not have the aviation lens)
For those of you visiting from BackCountryPilot.org - yes I am "Bagging" a large number of strips in Central Illinois in this video - Not a problem here in Central Illinois - Did anyone see my skateboard?
Can't afford my own cabin yet, but for now the USFS cabins will suffice...
Henny:
Another strong showing! Good clips!

I just took a guy up for an overflight of a 66 homes destroyed wildfire here locally, he is a videographer of sorts, semi pro, and had a pretty fancy looking camera. I was underwhelmed when I saw the final product, hell I could have got better results with my Drift! Sometimes simpler is better.
www.sustainabletv.org Charlotte fire if interested. He has it in that small (too window), and then when you enlarge the quality sucks.
Did some non-scientific testing of the water-resistance of the Drift. Seemed to fare OK and the wind stream dries off the fisheye lens pretty quickly.
Great Video! How did you have the camera mounted?
It's mounted on the lift strut with a RAM yoke mount and a 6-inch arm. I put a piece of plastic tubing around the strut first so the clamp will snug down.

I did learn the hard way that you don't have to cinch the RAM mount down super tight or you'll crack the pivoting clamp. Luckily they sent me a new one for a $2 shipping fee.

Nice vids! Keep posting, it's fun to watch.
Latest video made with the drift fixed on the strut, and a gopro on my head. Biggest waves for my weird wide floats yet... Usually on smaller lake in northen Quebec.
You did a great job on the rough water! Be careful of the dreaded rouge wave!

Added a GoPro2 to the collection last week. Took a little while to figure it out, but the remote features and video quality are pretty nice. Took advantage of some nice weather yesterday to do some experimenting with it. Put it on the strut and brought the Drift inside. Last night was a GREAT time to be out flying...
Sir Henny:
Totally nuts! Great showing! The glassy water looked scary at the end (06:20)! The "Little Wings" instrumental was clean.

Here's a first attempt at the video post.
A buddy of mine had the GoPro, so we strapped it to the strut for this flight last fall after goat hunting.
He just gave me a copy of the video last week. What a day... A great reminder for me that the best flying days of the year are just around the corner!

Fishing trip in Quebec. Drift with my homebuilt rotating mounted

Hey 907 - that was GREAT! The Phil Keaggy touch was a perfect fit too!
Henny - that GoPro2 is excellent! Nice work!
Whoa...remember it was only a couple years ago and we were all agog over the Flip 720...it's fun seeing everybody's work here and the creativity that the new equipment is bringing out! Good job on the rotator mount Frenchy. Oli, I'm still trying to get used to your "Widebody" floats!![]()

Frenchy: Great video are you referring to Gagnon the abandoned mine. We just returned from that area and Labrador. I have a camp-lot on Lac Boily are you familiar. I see you are from Rimouski I am from Maine. My good friend is from Sagneay -Cicoutimi Jac Lebarge. We have each have supercubs.
RAY
Hi Ray,
Yes i`m referring to Gagnonville ( closed town now).
Lac Boily is north east of Labriville i think?
I never met Jacques Laberge but he is on the APBQ ( bushpilot from quebec) forum and i saw his white and Blue cub,you can tell M. Laberge that i am ``Cuber`` on the APBQ forum .
If you ever come in Rimouski, let me Know, i would be happy to help and practice my english a bit!
Frenchy, Claude Ouellet
Yes you are correct about Lac Boily. I have been to Rimouski several times and fly near on my way north. Do you have float plane base near and can I buy fuel there? I will try to stop for a visit when I go that way again. My E-mail is rfogg31@aol.com lets talk and you can practice english and I will try to do better in french Jacque says my french sucks . Ha! Ha!
RAY
No seaplane base near, but my plane is on a lake 5 m. south of the airport ( lac a l`anguille ) N48 25 14.96 W 68 25 36.04 if you go on google earth you can see my plane on the SW side of the lake.I can accomodate you, but it`s hard now to buy 100LL at the airport , they don`t want to fill jerrycans anymore. I use mostly autofuel in my cub.

Thanks for info. I know where you are at lake. Can you get super auto gas? I am told high test-super has no alcohol in it in canada if so works fine we could not find any high test in labrador this summer. We flew very close to your camp when we went to Wabush. Hope to meet you soon. Lets do private E-mail. Jacque knows who you are.
RAY
No problem for super auto gas and i test it , no alcohol so far.
Claude
My latest video filmed with with a Drift, a GoPro and a HandyCam. The Gopro is great with the new remote control and water - shock proof. But the Drift image are always clear even when it is low light compared to the GoPro. But the gopro is still my favorite and don't even know why.
You guys in Canada sure know how to have fun. If I could only do what you do once, I would be happy. Send more float plane fishing vidio's we love dreaming about them.
If I had to pick one plane, it would be the Super Cub. Im going to build one and try to find a 180 to put in it. I will need your help. Thanks
Went flying on Friday morning, it has been very warm and humid here in Central Illinois and there has been quite a bit of ground fog and haze. Captured some of it with my GoPro's. the Cockpit cam and the main landing gear cam's are GoPro 2's and the tail cam is a GoPro HD.
Way Cool Sweet, when are you getting down to KSAR?
