Start to realize I don't use my GoPro anymore.... I think I'm gonna sell it and buy another Drift.

Thanks JL. I'm still based on dirt, that airport you saw was Leadville, CO (9928ft) and I'm based about 1hr east. The bushwheels are holding up great so far. I've landing in 4" of wet snow and that was fine, but I'm not in any hurry to see what my limit are. If I can line up a day of 8" of fine powder, I'll be sure to post a video of landing and taking off.
Hi there everyone. New to the forums but enjoying reading all the discussion. Figured I would contribute a couple videos I shot with my Drift HD170 Stealth. Both shot in 720p @ 60 fps.

New Supercuby and new Drift , look at the fabric!!!

Great Video! What type of tires are those? What is the Engine/prop combination?
Had a blast today going out and doing some snow landings/takeoffs with Mush.
Great video Matt! Thanks for posting
Nice Matt, at least you have some snow out there
A practicein editing using HD 170 camera. Best view on HD big screen http://youtu.be/p-2SZgbWUsU

Matt, yaHOOOO! Glad you and Mush had fun playin' in the snow. My "fun" was shovelling out Girlscout's driveway, but I worked it so hard that the durned plastic shovel blade got too hot, and warped...
.
Just be careful out there: The 180 Stinny I used to fly made a "wheels up" landing when it struck a hard drift, but it was only on 8.50's (NO I wasn't flying..). That was circa 1989, and it's been 96% ready to fly for ~15 years--its owner has LOTS of interesting projects. So be careful as the snow surface chages.
Lynn and Mike, if you're lurking, did you get your wheelskiis on yet?
Best wishes to all a great holiday season.
Thanks. cubscout
Matt,
Great angle for that video! Beautiful stuff man.
Andrew
Thanks guys.
I'll get a good video put together soon. Until then, here's another clip of the Mush Cub landing.
Since this has turned into a thread full of Drift videos here are a couple of mine from the other day. I hope you don't mind the spam can
hey guys, what mount would you use for say mounting on a cessna wing? i got the suction cup mount, will it hold up to flying?
Tom
Tom Ford
Get this: http://www.pilotmall.com/product/RAM...Kit/ram-mounts you will need to buy a bigger clamp from the hardware store to make it fit a Cessna strut though.
I have a ContourHD, but you just can't beat the remote feature and built in viewfinder.
The wing-looking-in on these vids are all Drift Stealth. THe tail is the Contour. The pans and long distance stuff are my Nikon D7000 DSLR with 300mm lens. Hero2 HD is coming out with a streaming feature that will allow both remote viewfinder AND remote control from you smartphone. Sweet!

I sorry for the content in cue on you tube, who knew! (yikes)
How do you post the video directly in the post vs. a link?

Ok - I borke down and bought the new GoPro Hero2. The GoPro is great for flying and scuba diving. The new Hero 2 has a great 1080 with a wide field of view. Check out this video - the main gear Camera is the new GoPro2. The tail camera is my original GoPro Heroi set to 108i0, note the decreased field of view. The front camera is the Nflightcam + with aviation lens. Does not have quite the field of view as the GoPro
Nice video! It is remarkably free from prop artifacts. Do you have any tips for minimizing them?
Bob
The absence of prop artifacts from the front camera is due to the NFlight + lens. It is specifically made to decrease the prop artifacts. I believe the GoPro has less than usual artifacts due to the time of day that I shot it, early morning. The key to reducing prop artifacts is to make the camera think it is darker out, neutral density filters work great and are available for the GoPro and as I pointed out - the NFlight + cam is designed to reduce prop blur. The only problem I have with neutral density filters is that they seem to wash out the detail. I like flying in the morning and evening, the colors and highlights are great, the air is calm and not a lot of people are out, and as a side benefit, the prop blur is less.
If you can't go flying, you can still use your Drift 170.

Life in Alaska isn't always easy, but it has its rewards.
You really need a hanger. Looks like you got all the snow that never made it down to Illinois!
Just for fun, and I will have some more of Bill Tracy's visit soon.

Here is a new clip from western Norway, operating out of Stavanger Sola International Airport. We don't get to do a lot of off-airport work in our parts as there are few grass runways available in our part of the country and environmental legislation prevents us from landing in the (so called) wilderness. The flight or scenery is nothing special... just two old geezers limbering up and getting the landing requirement logged. There is a lot of yakking in Norwegian and not much in English. I apologize for that.
The camera setup is all GoPro Hero HD; two in the cockpit and one externally mounted. The front cockpit cam froze after 13 minutes and refused to reboot again during the flight. IC/radio chatter is recorded on a Zoom H4n audio recorder via an intercom recording cable. Editing was done in Final Cut Pro X using the just released multi-camera editing module, which actually worked pretty well - even for a first time user.

Harald,
Great video! interesting to see a veiw of the other side of the Atlantic. A few things I noticed: You are wearing PFD's, the water looks really, really cold - is that a requirement or are you an optimist? Not as much snow in Norway as I thought, are you having a mild winter also? - keep the videos coming!

I my head, anyone who flies a 60-year old plane is an optimist. The requirement is for life preservers to be available on board for any flight over water, but there is no requirement to actually wear them. If we fly over the archipelago we always wear the PFDs, for a flight like this mostly not. Water temps are probably a balmy 38°F so the prognosis after a ditching probably is not good.
We're located at about 59°N latitude, about the same as Anchorage, but the winter climate is generally "mild" and wet due to the North Atlantic Current which brings heat and moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. There is a lot more snow at higher elevations, just a few tens of miles further inland.
Heres a video I put together. I am just trying out my new computer, and video editing software. Let me know what you think. Ron
Alaska looks way more cooler than Illinois! Which brings me to the topic of water assisted landings - not that there is enough Testosterone gel in the world for me to try - but how is it done?
What"s your guys take on Kodak's Playsport series. Seem inexpensive, but will they do as an entry level? Thanks.
I just ordered one from Amazon - seemed inexpensive and should be fun for general use. It does not have the field of view of the Drift, Contour, Hero but if you are going to clamp it to the strut or lift handle, it should be fun.
Just got my HD170 and threw it on the wing strut with a RAM mount. After one flight with the rotating lens 180 deg out, I got the hang of it. Great day here for ski flying. I think this camera is going to get a lot of use.

OBTW, the link below is still good. Camera, long life battery, 8 Gb card and shipping for under $200. Thanks Frenchy.
I used the Kodak Playsport prior to the drift. It does take good video and has a lot of features, but it isn't ideal for mounting to a plane. The mounting point is on the bottom and the threads seem fairly weak. I make a "custom" mount which I sandwiched the Playsport between to pieces of wood and bolted it to a ram mount base. It did however do well with a ND filter for removing the prop artifacts. Tough little camera and I still use it today.
BUT, I would use the money toward a Drift HD170 Stealth. As far as POV cameras go, there's no comparison.
