As I type this, I am coming off of about two weeks of WAY too much food, which culminated in the last 24 - 36 hours with down right out of control gluttony. None of this was by choice, of course, one must do what one has to during the holidays, and I did my part. While overeating is certainly not a comfortable state, I do hope that all of you and yours are warm (or cool as you choose) and comfortably fed as you are reading this.
I am already picturing in my mind the fly in events I will attend, the old friends I will get to see again, and the new folks I will soon meet. Each year I try to get to an event that I have never before attended. Some of them, like Sun n Fun are elusive because of the time of year. Others I have been to but have not been back for many years. I would love to be able to attend them all every year, but as the list grows this becomes more and more difficult to do.
I hope that if you have not been to a get together you remember a couple things. One, you will most certainly find yourself welcome. Two, come even if you have to drive or fly commercial. There is almost always an empty seat for a fly out, and the camaraderie is what it is really all about anyway. You won't be sorry!
Finally, as I do every year, I remind myself that I need to be both an ambassador and an ombudsman of aviation - we all do. You can share the magic, the fun, the challenge, and the dream of flying with others. Remember to the uninitiated, it seems unbelievable that a person can realize the dream of flying. But just remind them that even people from Oklahoma can do it....and anywhere else for that matter.
I wish all of you, my very best of friends, an adventure and enjoyment filled 2011.
