    Benefits of the New Software

Here's a thread to spotlight cool new features. What I like so far?

    1) Avatars are greatly simplified. You can select any photo from your own computer and the software will resize it automatically. No more shrinking your pics to postage stamp size only to have them rejected for being too big.

    2) Blogs. If you want to keep a public diary, now you can. We have some very interesting members. Blog away!

    3) Ignore a user. Tired of my yak? Select to ignore me. Or anyone else you'd rather not be bothered by.

    What features do you like?

Benefits implies good things. Give Steve some slack. The bugs in the new system will be many and will persist for a while. If we tell him about the glitches he'll get to them given a little time. It's forum software, for heaven's sake. The glitches aren't life threatening.

The new system seems to have a login glitch. First I needed a new password then after 5 minutes or so I had to log in again. This time I needed to use my old password. Kicked me out again after a few minutes.

Stewart, how'd ya get such a big avatar?

Same thing happened with me. After about the third time I found a spot on the page that asked if I wanted this new password to be use/saved. Works great now!

On my screen, it's Forum Actions in the top menu bar, then settings or profile in the sub-menu.

I'm guessing my Avatar size is proportional to the picture I uploaded into the Avatar slot. I don't know this tech stuff very well. I'm calling it a happy accident.

My log-in is working just fine. I know for a fact that Steve is working to sort things out. I don't envy that task today. Hey, your Carbon Cub project would make the ideal blog as far as I'm concerned. Interested? I'd love to read about it.

RE: advanced searching, I had the same problem where no results were coming up, then after playing around with selecting/delecting some of the options it just started working, and now seems to work great. I think the search engine just needed to be primed a bit, it is getting colder you know

Also, I like that the upgrade has gotten me to dig around a bit more and find some neat things like this emoticon which I think is particularly funny.

Why is the avatar pic blurry on my computer screen at home? It is clear on my screen at work. How can I make it clear at home?

  12. #12
I don't understand what is going on. I tried to do a reply with quote but I just get the hour glass. There are a lot of functions that I don't know what they go to or how they operate. I'm a little frustrated because my computer froze un in hourglass mode for what seems like forever. I imagine that after a while, I will get used to it.

    SJ:
You know if Stewart has the big Avatar and the rest of us have little ones, someone might construe that as discrimination! You know, the pictures are one of the best parts of the forums and like Stewart said, it doesn't affect the margin size so would you please consider repealing the dinky avatar act of December 2010?

Stewart uploaded his avatar before I put in the size limit. He was quick on the trigger

The search is pretty cool, click advanced search in the upper right. Way better than the old one.

PLUS EVEN BETTER are TAGS. You can "tag" threads like "Exhaust" or "Gear" and then do a tag search.

OK. I clicked "Unsubscribe From This Thread". Hopefully, I won't get any more emails on new posts. I'm not sure how I subscribed to a new thread to begin with...

  17. #17
One function I've always used comes up on the home page when I first log in, and it allows me to look only at posts that have been posted since my last visit.

That doesn't work for me now. Anybody got a solution? Not a huge deal, but that function is pretty handy.

you replied to a thread, and it is set to automatically email you when you do that... you need to goto 'form actions', then 'edit profile' and change that....

Snuck in the big one, huh? Cool. That doesn't happen very often. Do I get to keep it? Actually, since there's no impact to the margin size, I prefer the larger Avatar format. Hint, hint.

My search functions are not working at all no matter what I try.

Search doesn't work for me either.

Just be patient.... Lots of little stuff to sort through.

You can still search with google-> site:www.supercub.org then put in your search item.

    Hey Tim,

I just tried the reply with quote and now it works(obiviously) . I too can't get the search function to work. I really liked the search function of the old style. I hope this new format will work just as well.

FWIW, my search efforts are equally non-functional on Mac and Windows XP. That manly-sized Avatar looks just as good on both, so I have that going for me.

SJ, the "newest post" function operates correctly on my XP machine. The Mac is the culprit.

Stewart just wants the rest of us to believe his oversized avatar makes his experience here better.

Ok peeps, please try the search now, but just use the search box or the single item search. The "multiple content" search under advanced is not working for some reason.

Looking good from this end. I hardly ever use the search function, so that doesn't matter much to me, but the other stuff looks good. Just need to get used to the new format. Thanks for the great effort.

I keep on receiving emails saying that there has been a reply on the thread I have subscribed to. I clicked on the unsubscribe from all threads link on the bottom of the email but I still get these messages. I even went to my profile and clicked the check box on not to receive emails from every post but I still receive them. How do I stop receiving these messages? I only want to receive email messages when I receive a PM message. That box is checked too on my settings. How do I fix this? Does anyone have the same problem?

I had it and with some effort solved it. Go to the upper right of the discussions page and select Settings. In the left margin find My Settings and select General Settings. Scroll down a little to Messaging and Notifications and find Default Thread Subscriptions. Set it to "Do Not Subscribe" and make sure to scroll all the way to the bottom and select SAVE.

Thanks Stewart. I did this the first time but I don't remeber selecting "Save Changes" on the bottom of the screen. I tried it again. Hopefully it will work this time.

The picture interface and click-to-enlarge is slick! It's a good, clean, modern look, and I will survive the change!

I also like the larger avatar. That would be nice. Thank you Steve. You have made my life much better via this web site. You have made a little part of the world a better place.

The avatars are actually the same size as on the old system, they just look smaller. My hesitation about making them larger is that people on things like droids, ipads, iphones, dinky screen netbooks, and dialup internet (yes, we still have those folks) will not have quite as good an experience with really big avatars.

Steve, is there a new timer on log in time? It seems like whenever I go back to the site I have to log in fresh. I normally keep one window open to sc.org.

Are you clicking the "remember me" box? It should keep you logged in, otherwise it is currently set for 900 seconds. I will honk that up somewhat in the meantime.

Stewart you had the world by the tail and gave it away.

Actually I think Steve should open it up for eveyone. That's incentive for dial up users to go to a faster service.

Steve, I thought I was clicking remember me. But maybe me don't remember.
