My wife and I made it, I drew up the plans and she sewed it up. There is no floor, I might make one removable for Sumer camping. I need to put some windows in to see the tipups. It keeps the wind off you and with a heater it's a nice way to spend a day with my son catching a few fish.

At Driggs, Idaho the other day., alongside the asphalt strip. The berm was too abrupt to taxi onto the hard surface, so I took off and landed again after figuring out where the FBO was. I tried to touch base with the person based there with the Carbon Cub, but couldn't. Later I figured out I had the right phone #, but stupidly did not dial the Wyoming area code, so I couldn't reach him. They have LOTS of snow thereabouts, and I had a great time on the flight back south to Inkom. Snow on average everywhere I was landing was 3 to 4' deep at least, way too deep for even Bushwheels of course. Gotta have skis in this country to land off airport, period! At one landing site in a remote area, some snowmobilers rode up right as I was getting ready to restart. Before they could say anything I asked them if they were all right, and if they needed me to call Search and Rescue....they just looked at me and said "that's what we were going to ask you"! We all had a good laugh and went about our "business", people around here are NOT used to seeing skiplanes, and I hope like hell some well meaning citizen doesn't call Life Flight etc. thinking I've had a problem.

PS: I put my skis on the cub today.

I was bidding on these ebay skis, but they were taken off early. Here is their excuse:
Thanks for bidding on the listing:

    190489030668 - 1946 Federal Aircraft Skis A-1850

Unfortunately, we had to remove this listing and cancel all bids. We don't like to remove listings -- it's disappointing for everyone -- but sometimes we need to do it.

There are three main reasons why we remove listings:
-- The listing doesn't follow eBay guidelines.
-- The item isn't allowed on eBay or can only be listed under certain conditions.
-- The listing contains pictures or words that may create copyright or trademark issues.

If the seller is able to fix the problem and relist the item, we hope you'll bid on it again.

Sometimes, instead of relisting an item, a seller will suggest that you buy it directly from him or her, off eBay. If that happens, please don't accept. If anything goes wrong with the purchase, we won't be able to help you.

-- If you have questions --
Due to concerns about member privacy, we can't share any details about why the listing was removed, but we'd be glad to answer any other questions you might have. Here's the best way to contact us:
    1. Click "Help" at the top of most eBay pages. You may need to sign in.
    2. Click "Contact Us."
You'll be asked to describe what's going on, and we'll suggest the best way to get in touch.

We're really sorry about the inconvenience.

    Sincerely,

    eBay Trust and Safety team

Finally got the skis on my plane this weekend. Unfortunately it was dark by the time I finished, so I haven't tested them out yet. Maybe this weekend.

Beautiful flying weather around south central Alaska but low fog has made it tough to get out of Lake Hood Anchorage.

I'd guess that to be about 1988? image003-1.jpg We still have that 180-J, it's being refurbished right now.

Wow, what a day. Perfect weather and snow conditions for ski flying here in The Big Woods. Ice is finally safe, for the most part. The only problem is we were too busy flying to take many pictures.

I finally got out to use my skis yesterday for the first time since putting them on. We are having a righteous Minnesota winter so we got the full deal, including wither ground ops. Keith, Pat Fox and I went out for about thirty take-offs and landings:

    Jeff nice pictures.

I see that you have the air filter cover on your plane. I just yesterday, have a guy making me one. Do you see a difference with it?? I get a lot of missing and sputtering on T&G's with a 65 hp continental on power ups, but once it catches, it is running great.

Yes, in cold air your engine won't sputter/quit on final with the air filter cover on. My hangarmate leaves his on year round to keep the bugs off the filter in the summer....

Behindpropellors has a .pdf template for such a plate that I'm sure everyone's AP/IA will bless for installation.

Silly me but, why didn't you just taxi the airplane closer?

  39. #79
wasn't sure if there was slush in closer to shore, and also cutting ice blocks for the ice house didn't want to make tracks where the ice field was gonna be. will post more pics in the next couple of days, so you can see what we are doing.
