    leading edge exhaust systems

I have been looking at lees website about their exhaust systems and I'm just wondering if anybody has the systems on their a/c or if anybody has any reviews about these exhaust systems. Thanks

We hve the Leading Edge system on our 160 hp SC -- according to Lycon tests of a similar engine, it should make 173 hp. Ours seems very strong to me but I have no experience with other Super Cubs. I feel the quality of the Leading Edge system is exceptional. They had a couple of problems early on -- exhaust leakage at the pipe-to-muffler joint and the potential for cracks at the outer jacket standoffs but those have been updated at Leading Edges expense and no further issues in 90 hrs. Good people to deal with. http://www.wemakeyoufly.com/pa18_exhaust.asp

I have a set for sale in the classifieds. It now has about 200 hrs since new. No problems with it. The only reason for selling is the other planes in our fleet have sutton exhaust and we just want to keep all the planes the same. Sure puts out heat!

    Leading edge exhaust

I've had one on my cub 150 hp since 2004. It has a little over 300 hours on it with no problems. It provides excellant cabin heat.

    Deerhunt,

I have had a Leading Edge on my 160 HP SuperCub for about 5 years now. Absolutely zero problems. I don't know about HP increases, but I noticed more rpm and when still trying to compare to the old , I got on step on off the water a tad faster. The long stack does not fit inside my engine cover.

Like Darrell said...early leaks were fixed and mine has been trouble free for 1200 hrs and 6 years. Gives lots of cabin heat AND carb heat at the same time.

A bit pricey, however I started without an exhaust system and it definitely adds power over a stock exhaust.

Cubflyer and I did pull tests, RPM checks, and time to climb tests between LEE, Atlee and stock with a 160 hp and 180 hp Cub. We got little to no difference in performance between the three.

    I'd say save $3,000.00 + 8lbs and stay stock.

I am the guy early on who sent the system to Lycon for dyno. We got 12-13 hp on a stock 160 but only 5 on one that had been ported and flowed. That could be because Dane engineered the system to match the backpressure on a stock engine, not a modified one.
We run ours on the stock 160, have had it for years now with no issues. I have no regrets, except that the Sutton exhaust is now legal and worth a try (it wasn't certified when we rebuilt). We can feel the HP increase and definitely the increased torque, particularly in climb.
In my opinion, worth the dollars and the weight (except, like I said, I'd like to know more about the Sutton).
