I've got a buddy flying from Clinton, MO GLY to Kent, WA Crest Airpark S36. He wants to make a stop in Gillette, WY on the way. What is the best route if flying VFR, staying relatively low, and allowing for 3-4 hr pee breaks.
Thanks,
Wirsig.

I've flown back from Oklahoma to Crest via a few routes:
1) Through central KS, Cheyene Wy, Logan Cache UT, Boise, down Hell's Canyon to Lewiston, ID, Stampede Pass or the gorge on in to Crest. Usually fly this in my RV-4 - so not really seeking out low flying too much. The last bit of Cheyenne to Logan Cache is pretty rough terrain, but there's not much of it.
2) (when I fly my C-170, a little more amenable to slow and low): North through KS and Western Nebraska (a few grass strips to choose from along this way, but watch out for Arthur - lots of gopher holes and long grass), nip South Dakota and Wyoming, Billings (Laurel has good gas prices), then follow I-90 to Spokane. From Spokane, the Columbia Gorge, or any of the passes. A few good state grass strips in the Cascades (Lake Wenatchee, Stehekin, Skykomish, to name a few.)
Luck to your buddy.
