    What happened to BCP ?

It appears Zane has been working on it for a few days. But I don't know for sure. Hopefully it will be up and running shortly.

It looks like he is upgrading the site to some new server or something, Zane has a screen shot of what it is gonna look like on there now.

For the last few nights the BCP chatters have shown up on Gunny's Chat here.

Sorry guys, the changes I've been making have required the forum to be offline. I will have it back up hopefully tomorrow, but in a pretty rough state.

It will be forum and chat only, but at least it will be up.

Glad to hear that Zane, I was afraid that you'd finally had enough of the BCAH's & you were pullin' the pin.

    Hey Eric-

I think it has gotten too serious over there you can't give a guy a good ribben' with out somebody cryin' or whinein about not liking what they are reading so somebody gets bounced, thread gets locked or is gone. The funny thing is most of the BCAH's are the founding members of BCP and the new blood has created "Their Site".... From the out side I see it as very interesting watching both sides of the coin so to speak. I hope Zane don't loose what he created to start with

I'd have to agree that PC is taking over a little too much over there. Still like the site, but don't feel quite as comfortable giving an opinion or telling a joke as I used to. Some people just have to lighten up, and if they don't like something, just don't read it.

Zane has it back up and running now...although it is in a very limited state at the moment. He is doing some pretty major changes, all for the better.

Yep, I like the BCP site also, but all forums seem to attract the "EXPERTS" in everything....you get the whiners, the one's that should leave personal insults to PM's and the "know-it alls" that seem to always mess up a good thing. The problem is that these guys/gals don't realize what a$$es they are and think either they are funny or have their own agenda at ruling the earth.
You guys/gals know who I am talking about.
Have a great day and good luck Zane!!

Zane has done a great job with the site despite the infestation. Oh well, even the nicest houses are subject to cockroaches at times. Whine, Bitch self righteous and pious ...... never mind.
The picture gallery is awesome though as the whole premise was. When it was first started, it kind of reminded me of an interactive Mountain Pilot/Northern Pilot online.

This site seems to have some "experts", and after seeing the ripping the gentleman took regarding the US Air CVR spoof , there seems to be some sensitive types here also. I guess every site is going to have them. There is always one!!

We have some really incredible people here that have acquired a vast amount of knowledge about a lot of aspects of aviation. Sometimes those folks have been so focused in those areas, they have not always had time for charm school. We also have people who have the experience combined with an unpretentious way of delivering that in the written form. I'm grateful for both.

Rather than blaming the poster, we have to tune our own "filters" for what we decide to get ramped up about. When somebody does something solely to incite a riot, they are generally pointing out how little they really know (or they just like to incite riots ).

I'm really fortunate to work for an 86 year old family owned business. I have been in many situations and attended many events where I have observed these very intelligent (I'm one who can say my boss is WAY smarter than I am) people interact with colleges and competitors - all in an incredibly smooth and comfortable way. It does not mean they agree. In fact sometimes they are at odds, but similar to the "gentlemen's disputes" of days gone by, they do it with class and decorum, and it reflects on them the kind of people they are. I am very privileged and fortunate to work for them, and from them, I have learned that what I say and do reflects and defines the kind of person I am more than anything else, no matter what the content is.

Zane and I spoke on the phone on Monday for the first time ever, and it was fun to commiserate and reflect on the position we are in managing forums with a diverse, international, intelligent, and very active audience. In the 45 minute conversation, the most important thing I heard Zane say - and it is also the most important thing for me in these going on nine years - was that he has forged so many great relationships, and met so many neat people. It is that it in itself makes it all worth while.

You, dear reader and poster, are why we are here. What you have to say is important to all of us, how you say it will determine if we hear it or not.

    Thanks and sorry for rambling!

Zane, I'm glad you are back on-line.

I Googled BCP.org and got the "Bellarmine College Preparatory" -- what am I missing here? Who is Zane?

Steve, it was great talking with you earlier this week.

I joined SC.org about 6 years ago, and this week was the first time I have ever spoken with the man. It was fun sharing and commiserating, as Steve says. Afterall, I modeled BCP after SC.org, and I think Steve set a good example of how to run one of these sites(our own Hot Air is modeled after Rant and Rave, and has made me very popular.)

I try my best, and I am often guilty of trying to shape it how I think it should be, rather than letting it evolve organically.

One important thing I've learned is that the climate of our forum communities can be very dynamic. Early on it did feel very small, friendly, and cordial, and we all had a very welcoming attitude to anyone that could increase our ranks.

It's obviously changed, but with more people also comes more good stories, more photos, more trip reports, and a better chance that someone will pipe up with the correct answer when you have a question. There will always be someone with the wrong answer too...that's just internet forums for you.

Personalities drift in and out it seems, and the climate of the community seems a little different from month to month. That's kind of fun too. Here's to hoping for an upswing.

Even if the plug was pulled tomorrow, I can say that I've made some great friends and lifelong flying buddies from the experience. I imagine many others could say the same. I'm content with that.

Darrel, we are actually a subsidiary of Bellarmine College Prep, staffed by TA's from the Home Economics department, which may explain the quality of our IT work.

Thanks for the heads up everyone. The Bellarmine Home Ec Dept might be fun to interact with. I just bookmarked the BCP site, looks like another way to click away my evenings.

Supercub.org was the same way back when it started too. When I joined SCub.org I was member #16, and it was just a few Cub guys talking Cub stuff but mostly yakkin about the winter blues...and it was fun too!

A Bazillion Posts (roughly an accurate estimate) and a few hundred threads that turned into Rants and Raves and minus a few people and PLUS a whole BUNCH More, SCub.org has turned into THE most interactive and user-friendly, one-stop-shop for information, news and anything else needed relating to Cubs and anything else that Cub owners may/may not be interested in!

I may not post that much anymore--mostly because I don't usually have much to say that isn't already being said--unless of course it's about politics/gun rights/wolf hunting/AK Cub flying!, but I still enjoy the heck out of the site and since I don't even have a TV at my home I can even catch breaking news on the site! It's really a win--win!

And BCP is the same kind of site too, and I encourage any and everyone who flies the beautiful back country locales of the World to stop in and share their experience.

I've been amazed at the monstrosity of Supercub.org now, So MUCH good and useful information, and so MANY people...

All that and Steve is still just a down to earth nice Guy.

Personally though, truth is I don't like crowds too much so I'm off to go check my traps or something.

    All the Best Zane!

You know this brings a a question that I was asked not that long ago. When I was a member of the Comanche Society the monthly magazine would come and it was interesting to read and I enjoyed flying my Comanche. I even went to a safety seminar put on by the northeast tribe in Maryland and met some very nice people but honestly they were strangers and for all intents and purposes remained such. It waned!

You must ask a question that I have been asked does a site like this or back country pilot.org make the flying of your super cub better and is it keeping you flying more? I answer quite honestly YES! When you meet in Tennessee or New Hampshire or New Holstein or Johnson Creek or Missouri Breaks or Northwest Washington I am now in the search of camaraderie and the information to keep it all in perspective and enjoyable. I know this is not why many in Alaska fly but it is enough for me.
Keep it up Steve and Zane and THANKS

At the end of the day the success of these sites is because of the people and the events. I think this site and BCP thrive because of the friendships, which are many and priceless. I always look forward to seeing SC.org people and hanging out with them at NH, the WAD, etc. It's always a good time and an educational experience. We're all blessed to have the opportunities that flow from this site.
