Phil, I don't know if anyone has told you yet but there is a party for the old mans 75th B-day at the legion on Saturday at noon an you are invited. So I won't make it to Sabago until Sunday, Talked to Jimmy and he and a group plan to fly maybe both days. Hope you got out of Alton Bay ok as when we walked up to our planes guys decided to head back to Maine. don't know where Mike and Keith went after landing as we went and got a bite then never saw them again had a great time and was good to see all again.
I heard about the party, someone dropped off a flyer. I guess i didnt look at the date. Maybe i will go to sebago early then be back for 12 or a little after. Keith flew out with me, we went straight back to twitchells then home. Mike was going flight seeing with his new honey.Originally Posted by Douten

i also got an email about the runway condition...
Not bad. Not much rain, mostly snow which we plowed off. I also
groomed the ice two nights ago with a heavy drag. Not to say it's a
basketball floor, but not bad.
See ya there

Sue and i went down for an hour or so, pretty gusty at times. Cliff was there and a few other planes. Not much happening, but that was early. Tomorrow looks bad so probably wont head over tomorrow.

fun flying today - great to see you guys. Where the heck where the rest of you!!
I didn't plow my runway - I had about 6 inches fluff - very interesting take off - took a lot more runway! I was glad I didn't have a passenger. When returning on landing I had to land from the north and picked up some major speed dropping over the 50 foot trees - i was really burning up runway and planted it right down in the fluff and wow it knocked my speed way down and soon I was stopped - not even the slightest hint of wanting to nose over. Gotta love those 31 inch bush wheels.
I arrived at the flyin early -about 8:30 AM - no one was there and it was dead calm. I announced I was 3 miles out and the organizer got on the radio and said hello. I came in high and slipped it down like a rock - he said wow that was neat!! I said watch this & landed on the runway and road all the way down on one wheel - he thought that was pretty neat.
Next I was off to my parents place on the lake - just around the corner - I landed and had coffee with them. 10AM it was back to the ice flyin to see if anyone was there yet - by now the wind was kicking up. It was a good cross wind to the runway - so a little challenging.
When leaving the flyin once again I road up on my left wheel - however the wind was from the right - this was difficult - i flew around and on the next pass rode down the runway up on the right wheel - that worked out much better with the wind coming from the right.
When I got home I was actually warn out from having so much fun!!
My 19 month old son is nuts about super cubs. I have a bunch of airplane DVD's - he's only interested in those about super cubs - it's quite comical.
I look forward to the next flyin!

That would be my Maule. It was a fun day up there and glad to meet you and your father. Well, re-meet you father as I flew with him years ago when we were both at Tew-Mac.Originally Posted by cessna_pilot

Wow, SuperCliff and Tom in the same picture! Cool!
Was very windy up here in the other half of the state today. Not much flying going on despite the lovely blue skies.
Looks like someone discovered the joys of a pressure ridge on Sebago. They're lucky the car didn't go right through. Where I grew up they used to lose a lot of vehicles and sometimes people due to the pressure ridges on the lakes. Bad stuff!
The weather here in Vermont was low ceilings and snow this morning. Then I saw the winds aloft were 40 knots from the West. With my slow old Cessna 140 with a top speed of 85 knots, it would have been a very slow flight back at around 45 knots. I'm glad to see some pilots got a chance to play on the ice. It sure looks like there was some fun going on there. Those pictures of the car almost in the lake are pretty cool too. I guess I'll just have to try another time.
We should all get together sometime at like alton bay or something

Cliff:
Sorry to miss you guys Sat. Had to take the wife down to UCONN to get her hugs on the freshman girl who is sapping my wallet. Got to hit the Boston Boat show on the way home so all was not lost. Lets try to plan something in March when the wx warms up a bit.
