I have been thinking about installing a landing light in the space where the oil cooler used to be, maybe with a Citabria bracket. Anyone tried such a thing? Seems like a field approval might be possible for it.

Randy Rubbert once showed me a picture of a very professional installation that he had made of a landing light in the oil cooler opening on a SC -- looked great. I would expect that he has a 337 for it.

When a prang seems inevitable, endeavor to strike the softest, cheapest object in the vicinity, as slowly and gently as possible.— advice given to RAF pilots during W.W.II.
I have such a cowl from a PA12 that uses a quartz light for NAPA. I believe it was done under a Field approval
Thank you for the information. For the little I would use it this would seem a better deal than the wing contraption.

I've talked to people who have nosebowl-mounted landing lights (usually on Cessna's) & they seem to think that engine vibration causes shorter element life there than with leading-edge mounted lights.
Eric
I think there is high density foam around this oil cooler light in order dampen vibrations.
Not to mention It looks like a Red Green show original. May be a different light might look less,,,,,,,,,,How can I say this without offending someone?? Afro,,,no. Red Nec,,no. Gerry rigged,,no. Jerry Rigged,,yes. (and I am not talking about you Gaston.)Originally Posted by hotrod150
