    East Tennessee Fall Fly-In October 10, 11, & 12

The Second Annual East Tennessee Fall Fly-In will be held October 10, 11, & 12 at the Elizabethton Municipal Airport (0A9). For those of you who came last year, the schedule will be much the same. Friday afternoon/evening we'll do a short fly-out to a couple of local strips, fly the Nolichucky River, Watauga Lake the back to 0A9. On Saturday we'll do a much longer fly-out, probably the Nolichucky River Gorge into NC.

The storyteller on Friday night last year was popular so I'm going to have another one come and Saturday night hopefully we'll have a Bluegrass band. The meals will be handled much like New Holstein with Friday night, Saturday morning and evening and Sunday morning catered. The shower facilities at the FBO will be available again as will the airport crew car for any runs for supplies.

I'll ask for a show of hands next week to get an initial head count and then I can get an idea for the meal costs. Probably again in line with what SJ charged at NH. The camping fee will be $10 per night.

For those of you who didn't come last year the weather in East Tennessee in early October is usually warm days and cool nights so plan to bring a jacket. The leaves will be changing color but I have not heard a forcast yet on how the color will be this year. The FBO will be offering fuel discounts to fly-in participants.

Hope you can join us this year.

    Steve

    Steve,

I have this one on my calendar! I have really wanted to get out to that part of the country in an airplane. I hope to see you all there!

213NM further than New Holstein for me! (619). Better have some Monkey Butt Powder on hand!

I wouldn't miss it....this is the closest fly in I do!!

Steve puts on one hell of a fly in...we have had too much fun the last few times...as much as I remember...something about "adult beverages in Mason jars."

    NOT TO BE MISSED!!!

I'm planning on attending, that is if the Lycoming and I can make it over the hill.

  15. #15
That's a bit closer than NH so I may fly the Stearman over if weather and scheduling permit.

    Hey Tim,
I think once the PA11 leaves the Great State of Maine to come to the WAD we should be able to talk it into Vermont and then from there Tennessee is next door if memory serves me right ......or at least right after New Jersey......... I expect to be shot comparing Tennessee's neighbors to New Jersey.

I'm a definite maybe and really want to so... other than the usual "ifs" it really depends on how my leg feels after surgery this week.

    Kirby-

Usually the weather here in ET is great in October, we might have rain but very seldom any thunderstorms with high winds.

I am planning on coming again this year also. However. I am sorry to say The Donald will not be able to come. He is presently upgrading his PA18-90 to a 160hp Lycoming and has no airplane to fly. The amazing thing is my wife says she might come! Unbelievable!

Dont scare her Charles. She just might want to come to JC.

We are still planning on coming but this year it will be a drivin. Fell off a ladder two weeks ago. (my own damn house) Broken arm and pelvis and still pissing a little blood. They gave me enough new blood to fill the cylinders on a '69 VW Beetle (all four cylinders)
Now I have a wheelchair that does 0-60 mph in four flights of stairs.

OUCH -musta been quite a fall! I'm glad to see that you didn't lose that screwball sense of humor in the process. Heal well and promptly - - -

    Hi Snert,
A broken pelvis is no fun. 10 years or so ago, I did that along with nine other bones when I fell off the roof while building our log house; the one that burned (lightning) this summer while we were at Johnson Creek. I hope you heal up as well as I did.

I wish we could go to Tennessee this time but it will have to wait until next year. We just installed the engine from Donald's Cub in Susan's PA-11. It almost makes a Super Cub out of it. Big improvement! Now I have to get busy and put the C-85 from the PA-11 into the J-3. I was in Colorado yesterday and dropped by Univair to get a mixture control for the PA-11; spent all afternoon today putting it in.

We sure wanted to go this year, but there is just too much going on right now. We hope to see everyone there next year. ...Clyde Davis

    Greetings-

Snert, I was going to e-mail and see how you were doing but you beat me to it. Drive on over, we'll save you a choice spot. You can grade landings for all the arrivals. Hope you heal up real quick.

Clyde, sorry you and Susan won't be able to attend this year, everyone here was looking forward to your return. Not a day goes by that someone doesn't ask "if the couple in the yellow airplane from California are coming again'.

Charlie, I had The Donald a space reserved by the fire so he could tell more side-splitting stories like last year I hope Mrs. Alieron will come with you.

To everyone else who has committed to coming, thanks for the advance notice. Here are more details:

    1. camping - $10 per plane per nite

    2. meals - I plan on feeding the following meals: Friday night, Saturday morning breakfast, a take-out sandwich and drinks for lunch for the fly-out on Saturday, Saturday night and Sunday morning breakfast. Each meal will be $10 per person. So if you are coming for the entire event, it will cost you $70. Where else can you have such a good time for 2 1/2 days so cheaply? Meals will be served in the FBO hanger again. I'll publish times later. Please feel free (HINT, HINT) to pay in advance. A check or cash will do, as I have no means to accept credit cards. Please include you name, address, a/c number, number in party, and exactly what you are paying for. If for we cancel for weather (it'll have to be some dang BAD weather, like a foot or two of snow, hurricanes, tornadoes, terrorist attack on 0A9) I'll send everyone's money back. My mailing address is:

    Steve Lewis
    1051 Gap Creek Rd.
    Elizabethton, TN 37643

    3. showers will be available in the FBO. Those of you who came last year were pleased with the arrangements, I believe.

    4. fuel will be available by truck in the camping area at designated times during the event. Please plan to fuel when the truck is on site. Otherwise you will have to taxi to the FBO ramp. As you register, I'll give your plane number and other info to the FBO so they can run a tab for the fuel. You can then pay up before you leave. There will be a discount from the regular fuel price for the Fly-In.

    5. bring your own tie-downs. Nose draggers please park on the FBO ramp and the staff will tie you down on their tie-downs and help you get your "stuff" to the camping area.

    6. the FBO is planning on selling tee shirts for the Fly-In. The price has not been determined yet but I think between $15-$20. Please buy one or more as it gives the FBO a way to recoup some of their expenses for their additional staff. FBO Staff will be identified by brightly colored shirts, lime green at last report. If you like something that the FBO staff does, please tell them. They work hard with me to make this event a success. If you have a problem, either contact me (423.647.2511) or the Airport Manager, Randy Musick(423.543.2801), or the Asst. Airport Manager, Dan Cogan. BTW, Elizabethton Municipal Airport was named Airport of the Year in Tennessee this year and Randy was named Airport Manager of the Year as well. We're very proud of both of them

That's all for now, I'll have more information in a week or so. Let me know if you have any questions. Looking forward to the SC.org family gathering again in East Tennessee.

Weather permitting this is on my calendar and I hope to be Tool Times wing man and meet up with Behind propellers on the ride down. Maybe a side trip into Old Cuby's domain. Steve has explained what a great time everyone has and I am looking forward to it.
    Thanks

Is it too late to "sign up" for this thing? Rick Papp and Bill Tracy kind of got me thinking that I should make the trip into a fall color tour, and take my wife.

It sounds like there will be a lot of planes show up. I wasn't sure if there was a certain capacity for the airport?
