    Air Filters

I have the old style flat air filter on my PA-18-150. Is there any advantages to changing over to the newer round style?

More surface area on a round one which would mean more air flow.

I can't find it now, but if you search a bit you might could find a thread in which I seem to recall Jerry Burr addressing this with some testing to back his findings. I was going to do this same thing, but after weighing the cost vs. gain I decided against it for now, There may be a 180 hp in the cubs future which would entail yet a whole new lower cowl...

Can't you cross reference the part number and get them cheaper at Tractor Supply, O-Reilly, or Sears?

    Fram CA-122PL was original equipment.
I may be wrong but that probably won't stop me from arguing about it.

So the original part was a Fram Filter from the corner auto parts store? cool.

many--many years ago I had a 0-300 with the pull starter on it and the clutch gear gave out it cost several hundred dollars at the time to replace but an old timer on the field told me to go to a tractor shop and I got the exact part for $45

I'm always learning something new "never think you know so much as to not listen"

Dennis, the NAPA part I have is 6180, but it is a shorter version which fits the Penn Yan 180 hp conversion. I am not sure what the part number for the longer one is.
The Fram part number listed by S2D might be for the longer one.

How much shorter is it? I just bought the NAPA 2220 and it fits but very tight could be 1/4" to 3/8" shorter.

Dennis, The Length is 5.982, OD 5.75 and ID is 3.625
The Wix number would be 46180.

This link will take you to a site I found which shows a lot of the NAPA filters. but the 2220 was not on there. Click on the part number and it brings up a box that shows all the dimensions.
    Hope that helps.

I found the wix 42220 on another site and the dimensions are L-8.56 OD 6.06 and ID 4.56
