Electric Fuel Gauges in a -12

My -12 has newer Air-Energy tanks but still has the older head knocker fuel gauges that hang below the wing. The tanks have outlets both fore and aft and my intent is to redo the fuel system so it will feed from both. Right now it just feeds from the aft.

I have thought about putting in sight gauges and the FAA Inspector I talked to said that he would have no problem approving this. However, there isnt going to be much room in there with both hoses and the new Dakota rib.

Univair used to sell an STC to put electric gauges in but they no longer sell it. The guy I talked to didnt know why. Maybe they dont sell the tanks anymore but he didnt know.

My question is does anyone out there have electric gauges in their -12 and do you have any of the data or installation instructions? I would like to get rid of the head knockers so I can install the swing up seaplane door and the old gauges just wont allow this. If I could find the data for the elec gauges I might be able to get this field approved (maybe....)

    Thanks in Advance,

    Kevin -

You do NOT want the electric gauges in your 12!

A 12 I fly often has them combined with 30.5 gallon Dodge tanks. It's a MISERABLE set up and wildly inaccurate! It can have 11.5 gallons in each tank and the gauges show empty in 3 point and level flight. So you can fly the airplane light and constantly be thinking about fuel and glancing at the empty gauges or checking your watch. (instead of enjoying the flight) or you can fill it to where fuel shows on the gauges and start considering gross weight issues and wonder why the thing fly's so doggy.

Anyway, that's my experience with them..SIGHT GAUGES...SIGHT GAUGES...RAH RAH RAH!!!
