    Good morning,

    I do own a 1940 Piper J5,the brakes master cylinders are coroded beyond repair and I am looking for spare parts.

    Until now I was unable to find any of those.

    On an old Piper parts catalogue it is labeled as follows;

    piston 750 055 AW-384
    Compressionspring 750 057 AW-386

    Plunger rod 750 051 AW-19

    Can anyone help ?

    Thank you

    Mr. Legrand,

    I am sure you know that these brake master cylinders are 1) probably old car parts and 2) probably out of production for years. I do not know of a clear source for parts.

    I have searched through my issues of the Cub Club magazine and do not find anything specific about Air Associates master cylinders. I do find a short article that speaks about J4 underfloor brake master cylinder replacement parts. The article does NOT use the name Air Associates or any other brand name. Apparently there were two different diameter cylinders - 1 inch and 1.25 inches.

    For the 1 inch cylinder they recommend either the Wagner Master Cylinder Repair Kit F-19356 (TVL-24) or the Goodyear 1 inch Master Cylinder Assembly #511732.

    For the 1.25 inch cylinder the Bendix Master Cylinder Repair Kit #22982.

    Possibly someone on this site has an old set of Air Associates Master Cylinders that you can get some parts from?

    In all honesty, the best thing to do is replace these with a set of Scott master cylinders set up like a J3.

    I am sending you an e-mail with contact information of the person that wrote the article.

    Good Luck!

    I believe your brakes are like mine in the J-4. Longwinglover is correct, the Wagner Master Cylinder Repair Kit can be found at NAPA. its NON-NAPA part number is( F-19356), But use NAPA P/N (UP 190). If anything take you old Master Assembly in and mach up the parts.

    And don't tell them it's for an airplane or they won't sell it to you. Tell them it's for an old dune buggy or something.
