    unknown film

Years ago, I watched a film staring a Cubdriver who rescued a native friend and his dog team from a rather small piece of floating ice. The guy put his friend and the dogteam (five or six critters, if I remember right) in the Cub, tied the sled to the struts and took off! It was no fake. at least I think so.
Has anybody seen that film and can remember the name ? I'd like to purchase it if it's still available.

I remember seeing that film too, on PBS I think, was many many years ago, so I know that it exists, just don't know where you could find a copy of it though.

I believe I recall Bud Helmericks mentioning it in one of his books years ago, though I never saw the film. Didn't he balance the weight of the sled (tied to one strut) with a dead seal on the other side? Sounds like something he would have done while hunting polar bears.

That's a pretty cool ad! I was just down in the National Archives a few weeks ago and found some great rare photos of military L-21B's in action, landing on glaciers in the Alps. Both U.S. and Italian military personnel involved and in the pictures! Of course, I had copies made!

Will scan in and post when I get a chance in my lately very busy schedule.

Can you tell me where you found the pictures?

Did anyone notice in the ad "when victory is won" ? We could sure use a bunch more of that thinking nowadays.

Welcome to Alaska! When you disembark the state, it is required that you leave both your daughters and your wallets, thank you!

Like I said above, I found them in the National Archives. I will scan and post them when I have a chance (probably not until next weekend though).

It took me a while to find them, much of their stuff is a mess when it comes to cataloging. There were actually a lot more pictures I found of the L-15 than the L-21..... does anyone know what that was?

Yep, Boeing probably didn't get any contracts for the L-15 because it was so damn ugly!

There is/was a Boeing L-15 being redone at the Willow, AK airport. not that this has anything to do with the movie question.

    ad

The ad or poster of the Cub about to land on the ice reminded me of a cutout magazine ad that I have on my hangar wall.

    Here's a link to the picture: http://www.supercub.org/photopost/sh...=14869&cat=762

    Life was simpler then.
